I think someone had some rabbits too. We ended up getting a trio of buff cochin bantams, a trio of full grown BIG Light Brahmas, and two little Spangled Old English Bantams. I never figured on getting any bantams, but these were just too pretty to pass up. LOL. It has been a month since we were down there, and all the birds are fine except the buff cochin rooster dropped dead about a week ago. I don't know if it was old or what. I forgot to ask how old they are, but the hens are laying an egg every other day or so. But anyway, we had a great time down there. Some had really neat stuff, and some stuff wasn't so good looking, but it was an enjoyable time for us.

I just got off the phone with the Virginia Dept. of Agriculture to see about getting certified to be a NPIP tester, and during our discussion I asked about the disease MG (don't ask me to spell it out) and how that Virginia requires other states to test for it before they can ship to our state. Because of that there are many people who cannot ship birds here. The gentleman said that a bill has passed and is on the desk of the Secretary of Agriculture waiting for a signature to repeal the need for that test. The new amendment could take place as early as January. That means we can then get birds from places like Cackle hatchery and others. I just thought I'd pass that along in case anyone was interested.

Here we go again! We are under a tornado watch and flash flood warning. Supposed to get between 4 and 6 inches of rain. We went so long without rain, doing chicken chores in the rain is really yucky. We had no measurable rain for two months, and for the last two weeks, rain several times a day. My garden is ruined. All my tomatoes split and so did my watermelons and cantaloupes. The chickens sure have enjoyed all those ruined melons, but they have OD'd on tomatoes and stopped eating them.

I know what you mean.I am sick of rain and aftershocks

.. I hear it's going to rain all week. I have been letting my egg layers free range as their run is soaked. They have been loving it

My silkies and polish though have been kept up when it pours rain other than that their run stays pretty dry and they can enjoy the outside safe and sound in their run.
I sat outside yesterday just watching all of them scratching around and being silly until the rain hit.
