Yes it goes into the ground and shouldn't go into your compost from what I understand. I looked it up last year after reading about the kids eating the eggs. I wonder if you could still do a yahoo search on it.It was AP news . I will try and post link if I can still find it

a lot of these stories come from vegans. vegans are not content to just skip eating meat. they believe that everyone should be forced to skip eating meat. this sounds like a slanted story or stories. but it will cause me to not use medicated feed this year. if my chicks are raised on wire and have no contact with the ground until older will they be safe from cocci?

actually your putting them at a risk for having a fatal shock from cocci if you do that...atleast in my experience. I use medicated chick feed and when I put my chicks out on the ground for the first time they seem to show symptoms of Cocci...I've gotten birds who are 3 or 4 months old who were raised on wire and when I brought them here and put them on the ground I lost 1 to Cocci and the other got real sick, I was told to introduce early to the ground they'll be put on later, put a piece of sod in the brooder. This helps them build immunity early. I noticed broody raised chicks hardly ever show symptoms of cocci, and it makes sense its because they're exposed to it from day one. I now treat anything who goes on the ground with a cocci treatment for the first few days they are outside to help them build a resistance to it.

i guess i should check to see whether any arsenic is in my starter feed. maybe complain to the southern states about putting it in there. most if not all of my hatches are incubated. maybe set up some more broody pens and let momma raise em.

I tried that and couldn't find it .They have other names they use for arsenic. Asked at the feed store and they didn't have a clue . I would still feed it to the babies just for the first month or two.
I seen somewhere that they were making an all veggie dog food

would 4 months be enough time for it to break down and be safe to mix into the garden? i have 19 chickens and clean out the coop bout every 2 weeks so its enough to fill up 3 8ft beds on my truck
