You guys need to check out the "Swinging Bridge" restaurant in Paint Bank. Route 311 in Catawba. The food is really good and if you have children they would enjoy the Buffalo farms close by.

the swinging bridge restaurant isn't catawba but paint bank... from the homeplace it's just over 28 miles. and a fun drive, if you like winding and hilly roads with switchbacks and unexpected sharp turns.

little did i know the first time i drove 311 i'd be living near there. thought it looked like a 'shortcut' from the other side of covington to roanoke. uh... yeah. right.

maybe shorter as the crow (chicken?) flies. but now that i know it a bit better, it's a fun drive in a capable car. especially with hubby driving. like he used to tell his on-track students... "it's not how fast you go, it's how you go fast." but i digress...

Oh yes the roads are very winding! My son sometimes get car sick on the ride up there and we come from New Castle so it isn't as bad as coming from Catawba. Plus I worry about all the deer and constantly tell my husband WATCH OUT and your going TOO FAST! haha
