visitors

The "visitors" have returned every evening at feeding time to dine on cracked corn, now in the chicken yard...last eveing they stayed for about two hours munching up the corn and looking around...this evening I was by the chicken yard fence when they flew in...one was almost close enough to touch when it made it's turn to land in the yard...I had heard them behind the tree line when I was filling the goose pool and then when I left the geese area and move off, the little lovelies flew in...it is such a hoot to see them every evening picking up a free meal on us...I hope they remain healthy and continue to join us at dinner time...

They are black bellied whistling tree ducks!!!! They breed for life like geese and raise the young together both also setting on the eggs.. They Whistle instead of quack... They are really neat...
They may be nesting in the area. and just coming in to visit with other ducks and sample what they are having. LOL.
I've had one coming in for about 10 days to visit with Louise and Fred ( my two female black bellied whistling tree ducks.. they are both little hussies right now.. he has spent all day with them and leaves at dark... he left yesterday evening didn't see him today, but he will proably be back again... he and Louise are really buddy buddy right now..
there were two new ones withe them when I came in this evening about dark but they flew off... had to round Fred and Louise up and get them in their night pen cause they wanted to try and go too, even thought wings are clipped.. LOL.

Well "Buddy" returned this morning (5/30/ and is hanging out with Louise and Fred.... He even gets in the kiddy pool with them... Don't know what I'm going to do if Louise starts laying eggs... May have to invest in an icubator and hatch some of them.... He has even developed a liking for their mazuri...

Aren't you a lucky duck!

Those are pretty cool. Enjoy every bit of them, I certainly wouldn't mind if they decided to get a free supper.

Do they have leg bands? Perhaps since they are so tame, they are escapees?
