Does this have blue in the tail? Kinda looks like my EE's that have had their beard/muffs pecked out. With those slate legs and blue in the tail, it's gotta be a mix of some kind. Hen.

Gold Cuckoo Marans pullet

GCM pullet

Does the black and white one have feathered legs? Columbian Rock or Wyandotte maybe or a light Brahma (if legs are feathered) pullet.

looks like a pullet

Lakenvelder pullet

Black (Copper?) Marans hen

can't tell...

GCM pullet and Sliver Lakenvelder pullet

looks kinda boyish...not sure though, but I know its a GCM

Could be a mix...maybe a black sex link? Any saddle feathers? How old?

boy?

Don't know what the white one is but it looks like a pullet.

Wow! Very pretty eggs. And, yes, those are wheaten marans chicks. Sorry Winner has such a poopy attitude.... But if chickens were smart they would intuit being nasty doesn't serve them well; just gets them served.

LV Chicks
YaaaaaY! Shark Week is here! I swear, I learn something new with each season.....like I shouldn't ever go swimming in the ocean because I am decidedly fat seal shaped (a great white fav for snackies) although it would take a pretty big or very hungry shark. I'm baking shark-shaped cookies right now....
BTW: Cucumbers are great for chickens in the heat, too.

MuckMuck
Definitely two Golden Cuckoo Marans in there, White Rock, Buff Orp, what looks like a Lakenvelder, and could the last chicken picture be a Columbian Wyandotte and a White Wyandotte? But it -- the Columbian one -- looks kind of like a cross of something as it's kinda splashed. The black one I have no clue, but Black Star could be a guess....or perhaps a Barnvelder cross?

Quote: I have a total of 4 GCM's three pullets and 1 Roo, Oh yeah I have another pullet that hatched out of a GCM egg but is solid white!

The black ones are the only 2 BCM pullets I got out of a dozen or so eggs! Below are some pics of the herd of BCM roo's I ended up with. If anyone here wants one just holler it's yours! The grey one I don't know what it is, my wife bought it at a feed store in Escondido where it was labeled as a "fancy" pullet chick. It's obvious the pullet part didn't work out, now I'm trying to figure out what breed "fancy" is. Karen says she's gonna start writing the breed's down when she buys them, I'll believe it when I see it.

Is the white one a "sport" then? I'm glad you got a good group of GCMs to breed with. I'm looking forward to trying for some of those for myself. I am having similar luck with BlueCMs...way to many roos. I hatched out 3 eggs from one hen...everyone of the chicks is a boy! Out of the eggs I got from you and Holly31, seven hatched and 4 are boys. I even got a boy from the feedstore bin...first time that's ever happened. I have a bunch of chicks this year though...so far I think I have hatched out/bought 19 pullets. I'll be culling heavily and giving several 1yr old hens and pullets to my friends I normally get eggs from. I gotta stock my supplier so I'm making some hard choices with an eye for what I want to hatch in the future. For example, I may give them one of my (only) two WM hens so that I can get hatching eggs next year. They have a WM roo already. So hard to choose. I wish I could keep them all.

I wonder if your blue roo is an Andalusian? I like mystery chickens, though I like designer chickens better!

We are getting ready to send a whole bunch of roos and old hens to Camp Kenmore! I've heard it's a really cool place and the food is to die for!

I know! I know! I'm so bad!

so glad to find vegas folk on chicken hello all I have 4 four month old chickens we are trying to make it through this summer currently they are indoors during the heat of day and go out side about 4pm. any suggestions on what i can do to help them get through summer heat. i have cool air going into there coop from my swamp cooler and there coop is in shade from 12pm on they get am sun.

My chicks are about the same age as yours, ~ 4 months. I too am in Henderson where it is often hotter than in Vegas proper. My 4 barred rocks seem to do well even with the heat. The entire coop is shaded through out the day so that helps a lot. During the heat of the day, they spend most of their time resting under the house. If I leave the coop open for them to roam around the yard, they seem to never settle down no matter how hot it is. They prefer to hunt and scratch and will constantly roam from one end of the yard to the other.
I do have a mister which is set up in their coop and they will rest under that when it is running. But I found even with that on, they prefer to roam the yard. So most of the days I don't run it.

Ultimately when it isn't so hot, I will finish my garden project which borders the run/coop. I expect it with its water and the trees will also help keep the coop even cooler than it currently is.
It should come out like what I have drawn on my site when done -- http://monafamily.com/blogs/pmona_journal/chickens-the-garden/

so you garden too where you able to get anythign to grow this year im not the best of gardner but i normaly get my tomatoes and bell peppers and squash to grow but this year nothing it so sucks. but i have heard from a few that this year is not good for garding.

on the coop i am planning on growing grape vines on it to help keep it cool during the summer

and you have a very nice coop and run.
