Vote Yes on Proposition 2

Wow, some people sure can't read and just assume things based on emotion. Has anyone that has actually read the proposal understand what actually would and would not occur. The proposal does not prevent eggs from caged chickens from coming into the state. The university analysis that was pointed out by someone earlier clearly spells out the outcome.
If people want to buy cage free eggs in CA, they can. If they don't care, they will buy the cheaper eggs that will be imported from other states. The only thing that this proposal would do would be to help the egg producers out of state.

Good points of the bill
animals would get more space to freely move around and not be so cramped
free range eggs would be in more demand and more people would be educated on where there food comes from
the short lives of veal would be drastically improved (the veal industry is already moving in this direction)
bred sows will no be so cramped
There are fines and prison sentences for those that dont meet the requirement which go in affect 2015

Bad Points of the bill
There is no money to pay for extra inspectors to make sure the requirments are met.
The fines are up to $1000 or up to a 6 monthes in jail, this is nothing compared to dog fighting which is a fedral offense.
will the economic troubles facing the country and a freeze on most lending how will farmers get the funds to retro-fit their barns
Most small time farmers will leave CA (multi generations) and go other places or quite all togethor as it will be to expense to keep thier businesses going
this bill will effect free-range hens that are cooped at night/am
Farmers have until 2015 to meet the requirments of the bill this does nothing to help the animals now
CA is going to spend more of eggs(just like gas) because the eggs will have to come from other places.
People who are having trouble feeding thier families now are going to have even more because the price of eggs will go up also local ice cream and egg based goods.

If the bill passes then other states need to be aware that what happens in CA will happen there.

Most of you have not been to other countries they don't have the battery cages like America has, unless there finance by us, are we the real third world country. Most are free range chickens and they are able to supply their people. Eggs are not the only thing people can eat that is affordable, cut out the snack food, ice cream, sodas and all the junk food and they would be surprised at how many great nutritional foods are out there.

I have asked friends to read prop 2 and then give me their first honest response, its always, ohhhhhhhhh the pooooooooooooooor things, Then I say what do you think of the consequences and who will benefit. Follow the money. Their opinion changes, unfortunately, I'm afraid most voters will go with their first emotional response.

Please, please, please...don't let the government mandate how we raise our animals!

If you support better housing for livestock you can vote for that by growing it yourself, purchasing direct from the farmer or by buying the products labled in such a way in the grocery stores.

I don't live in California but will likely be affected by this if it passes, if not immediatly, somewhere down the line. The implications of this bill will reach far beyond providing better livestock housing. I'm afraid we can't even predict what the fall out would be. I do know that I don't want the government deciding what is the best way to raise animals.

Proposition2 is flawed and must be stopped. It is being pushed by groups with agendas to eliminate livestock production and meat consumption. It will decimate the poultry industry in California.
