WAAAAAHHHHH - I've got a roo

Did you every figure out what to do??

You know they make those sound proof boxes and perhaps you could put something like that up.

I feel your pain. He's such a gorgeous bird and obviously loved by you and his girls.

Seriously?!? Is this true? I was doing some research online to see if this was true but everything I found said not to kid myself that all roosters crow.

I would totally keep him if he didn't crow. He's always been quiet as can be. The only sounds he makes is this very soft and very high pitched squeek when I come to bring them treats.

Or am I just delaying the enevitable and at 8 or 12 months suddenly, he'll be crowing all day long?

There is a movement afoot...the garage rooster. Put the roo in the garage at night. Let him crow his head off and he goes out with the girls later in the morning. I think if there isn't another roo around he won't crow much later in the day. At least that's how my silkie was.

As far as getting another chicken. I am sure there are plenty of breeders who have nice hens that aren't quite up to their breeding standards who would love to place them in a good chicken-home. The only trouble is it's best to get at least 2. I have never had any trouble integrating new birds.

If you do decide to rehome him...many feed stores will take him. People are often looking for a guard roo if they have a flock of hens from the hatchery. And the boys always seem to get themselves into trouble, but that's their job. That's why people need new roosters every now and then. Good luck with him. I had to rehome a beloved silkie.

Thank you for your kind words. I just posted a note on our local chat group to see if I can find someone who wants to take my beloved Poppy locally.
This is so difficult for me after raising them from day old baby chicks. Both my husband and I are just so attached to our four chicks.

I live 30 mins away from the harbour bridge (sydney) but I still keep roosters. 3 To be precise. Just saying, you can still keep him if you've got nice neighbours
