Wading into enemy territory - my neighbor has 80+ roosters and I'm going mad

Legal battle could go both ways, even if you win he may find a way to counter sue (Anything is possible these days.) and cost you more than your remaining sanity could handle. as for the monitoring the comings and goings that is REALLY touchy. That could mean invasion of privacy, stalking or a list of other law suits. Cameras these days are a wonderful thing, but if used "improperly" they can be your worst enemy. At minimal you would have to post that video/still capture devises are being used, or they wouldn't hold up in court. They can protect you but not always be admissible if use w/o persons knowledge. And you also need to know what you local/state laws are on ROW. He could take it as harassment or invasion of his privacy, even on your land but in HIS vehicle where law says he can do whatever as long as it isn't illegal.

Not to mention fallback if anything illegal is happening and the police arrest someone. If they are willing to face prison time for cockfighting what would be so different from going after a person? Or their property.

What you can do, IDK but I think these are some things I would really be careful of because most laws state what you CANNOT do and penalize you for it. Laws never reward people for doing what they can legally. At least none I have ever heard of.

OP, you moved into a situation where if your neighbor is operating within the law, then he has precedence. You can buffer sound as indicated but he is engaged in a form of agriculture.

Indulge me to play devil's advocate for a moment...

I'm living on my property, minding my own business, raising my chickens, living my happy little life. Neighbors move "to the country" and start trying to tell me how to live my live and manage my animals. That's not going to go over well at all.

OP, I'm truly sorry you moved into this situation, but there's nothing you can do except get very, very serious about moving. I would say do NOT put up cameras toward your neighbor's property or concern yourself about possible illegal activities if you are not in physical danger of said activities. You are not law enforcement, and you state law enforcement has been called before. You are not going to buy your neighbor out of his lifestyle, you're not going to sue him out of his lifestyle. He's living where his lifestyle is appropriate, and he wasn't hiding anything while your house was for sale.

So, sit down with your honey, and review your budget. Trim, tighten, sell things, take a second job, whatever you need to do to be able to move.

My brother inlaw has a really nice sound system in their house. Part of it is connected to their TV/entertainment center and part of it is hooked up to speakers outside so they can listen to their music on the deck and in the pool. I have no idea what the set up cost them but it might be a solution if you can't do anything about the roosters and can't afford to move.
