Walk me through lock down?

Ok, as mentioned there is going to be an unfortunate amount of time that I'll be gone during lock down. Not good, when it comes to humidity. So I'm wondering if there is something I can rig up. Here is what I've done, and it's being tested now to see if there is any increase in humidity. Probably a totally ridiculous idea. Anyway, I've taken a half gallon milk jug, cleaned it out really good, and filled it with water. I put a hole in the top, and used one of those silly straw kids sets and made a straw that goes from inside the milk jug, out the top which is air tight, and into one of the vent holes in the incubator. Hoping, via normal evaporation, that the humidity finds it's way through the straw and into the incubator.

Oy.....any other ideas?

Ha. Yes.

Go to Lowes or Home Depot and go to plumbing, and get some 1/4" plastic line and a screw-in quick connect to fit it, and a valve. I drilled a small hole in the bottom of a white plastic bucket - but you could use your milk jug - and then slipped a small gasket onto the screw-in quick connect before screwing it into the hole in the bucket. I attached about 6" of line to the quick connect, and attached the other end of the line to one side of the valve. Then, I put enough more line in the other end to stretch from a resting spot for the bucket (higher than the incubator, because you're using the vertical, standing water pressure from your reservoir to push the water through the valve) to a hole in the incubator above my moisture source - in my case, a rolled paper towel standing in a jar, and pushpinned to the inside of the incubator, up high in the airflow.

Then I adjusted the valve to just do a drop at a time, very slowly. I had to play with it some, but I was able to get it to where it would keep the source damp enough to keep my humidity up where I wanted it - without putting so much water in that it overflowed the jar.

I'll post a picture of the bucket and valve in a minute - let me get one and upload it.

Here go.

I kind of wish I had looked for 1/8" - it would be easier to dial down the drip rate. I may check to see if they have it, next time I go in. Which, you know, since I need to build another coop, will be pretty soon.
