Thank you for the well wishes. Chicky-girl has been up and down. Last night she was trying to fly and roost, this AM she's not so great. She did eat a decent breakfast...

Duck in the bedroom? Have you read Click, Clack, Moo or Giggle, Giggle, Quack? Better watch out - those ducks are tricky. And I hope he's not snoring.

After a number of ups and downs(almost culled) my hen is back with her flock this AM.

She is not 100%, but she can walk in a strait line. No more hooch for this one.

I had a chicken loosing her feathers and walking as if she had been drinking too. What scared me most was the cat had gotten sick about the same time so I thought they had gotten into something. This is the first time I’ve seen this chicken molt so it could have been symptomatic of a heavy molt but then both my chickens have stopped eating corn or egg lay. All they want to eat is my wild birds feed. They have cleared most of the bug population so just in case they needed a high dose of protein: my husband had gone fishing so we feed her his left over anchovy bait. Within two days she was fine. She’s back to her talkative, pushy, noisy self.

Thanks, Jenksi! She is totally fine. Looks beautiful with her new feathers, and is strutting around with the rest of them. She started laying again too - I think. Her comb is red and she squats. Haven't caught her in the act though.

I've started increasing all the girls protein in general (i buy veggie feed). If she has an underlying problem, you wouldn't know by looking at her.

I have had the exact same thing happen to me a few days ago, I searched the web for answers and came across some one who said that increasing the protein should make a difference......giving tuna to your girls.
My girl in question had a huge molt , feathers everywhere.
All the girls stopped laying but this one had stopped and started and stopped again, she had a bare bottom and being dark brown she was now brown and white spotted!!
I followed the advice of tuna and the first day they were a bit iffy, they ate it but it may have been because I took it down in a different container....the hen in question still walked sideways a little but there was an improvement.
The next day I mixed it with lettuce they normally get for their lunch and boy did they get stuck into it.....more improvement
Day three and she is running around clucking with the others where before she was going off on her own.
I like to use natural cures rather than bring the drugs in,
I am thrilled so thought I would pass this one to anyone who comes up with the same problem.

I am new to chickens and my chicken is in a heavy molt and walking sideways..I started feeding protein to her will try tuna...any other suggestions...I did see someone say poly vi sol baby...Thank you.
