Well, they do it with ducks. And with emus. There have been threads on both of those forums about harness and leashing those birds. So, if you can get the right harness and convince the turkey it's not going to hurt it, it would probably work.

I think it would be easier if you started with a young bird -- probably have to invest in multiple harnesses of various sizes as it grows.

For the ultimate, just add a turkey diaper and perhaps some "bling" and you're good to go anywhere, even downtown.

I'd love to see a picture of someone walking a pet turkey somewhere like Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills. That would be too funny.

I did see a cute thing last year on the news about a trucker in Iowa who raised a solitary pet Rouen drake, and the duck goes everywhere with him in the semi -- he had a harness and leash on it to walk the bird at truck stops.

I've done it before. I had a presentation a few years back in my Genetics class involving the genetics of slate turkeys. As a bonus, I got to bring in Jenny, my lovable slate hen. I used a large dog harness and had her wear it every day for around two months before the presentation. During the last month, I started using it to lead her around. She did quite well out around the coop. However, when I had to walk her through the halls, she became slightly stressed and didn't want to move. I ended up carrying her to my class. Once she got away from all the noise and movement, however, she did fine in the class.
