Walmart chicken feed killing my birds???? Causing prolapses

I have been getting feed from walmart because it's cheaper. Recently after I switched, I've had about 4 chickens die of prolapses and egg bound. This makes me sick. They don't put any of the nutrients that a chicken really needs in it. NEVER buy chicken feed from wal-mart EVER!!! PS. One of my birds has prolapses right. now. What can I do to help?

Hemmorroid ointment on the prolapse may shrink tissues of a prolapse after a warm, slow soak in the sink. Then you'd gently push it back inside. Latex gloves like a doctor uses come in handy for this.


Feed can't cause a prolapse unless it's making the hens way too fat.

Perhaps we should be cautious of getting any type of feed at WalMart, TSC, etc. (???)

Wouldn't feed stores usually (not always, but usually) carry a better, healthier feed for just about any animal, since that is their business? I'm always wary of the "lowest price" anything. It's usually inferior quality, which is what makes it the lowest priced "anything".

TSC is a feed store, much different than WalMart. TSC carries Dumor, made by Purina and Blue Seal and Purina. Feed stores carry what sells, not necessarily what's best. I'd be wary of buying feed at Walmart unless I read those information labels on the bottom.

I guess I was thinking about hay at TSC. I would never buy hay for my horses at TSC ...

When I worked at a vet clinic, the doc would always tell people to NEVER feed their dogs Ol' Roy - Walmart's brand of dog food. He always said that it would kill your dog. I imagine that Walmart brand of chicken feed is any better quality. I'm so sorry to hear about your chickens. You've probably taught a lot of people a very valuable lesson!

I think there is something wrong with the walmart Chicken feed - egg maker... I read about this yesterday, Then today I went and picked up two hens from a gale that said she started feeding her hens the walmart eggmaker and I noticed one of the hens has a messy behind and swolen looken and when she pooped it was diffacult for her... It looks like swollen hemroides... I put preparation-H on it.. I hope I can get the sweeling down before she has to lay an egg...

Walmart makes cheap stuff so people are like: Holy Cluck! It's half what I get at the other place! Oh man I'm in.

In case you didn't notice, this thread is a year old. Hopefully, the OP changed feed to see if the situation also was changed. I will say that folks should follow their gut. If they think their flock isn't doing as well on a certain feed, it's okay to change it for awhile and see if things improve.
