Wanna see a wet hen?

We have an outdoor deep sink over at the greenhouse, which is right next door to the girls coop. The drain for this deep sink simply pours on the ground and follows along a shallow ditch to get the runoff water to a number of Lilac bushes along the fence. Since it's only water, it's perfectly safe to let do so.

Every morning when I clean the girls water towers and the water flows in the ditch, the girls all come running for "puddle time". I swear they love the water in the ditch far better than the fresh clean water I provide in the towers!

Lots of scratching and picking out of delectable goodies!!

I'm still trying to figure out where the term "madder than a wet hen" comes from. My girls love getting wet!!!

Oh, yeah, for sure. Look at my California Grey hen's comb (notice how erect it is):

Is it just me or is her butt missing a bunch of fluff? It looks like she has a hole there lol

Yes, she has this huge embarrassing bald spot on her butt that pains me every time I see it, and it's been there for a couple years now, and I always just figured it was a very long moult, but...

Hi everybody -
I just wanted to let you all know that Honey passed away a couple days after I took these pictures.

I gave her the bath because she wasn't feeling well and I thought she might be egg bound.

You can read about it here - http://dustbathladies.blogspot.com/

Thanks, 4kidZ! I'm so flattered. They were my first ever chickens! I was hesitant about washing them that young but they came to me pasted up so completely that the soapy rag trick wasn't cutting it, so I tried to dip them in warm water from the tap, but they were running around so crazy-like trying to get away from the water they ended up pushing each other into it!

They're total clowns. Here's a series of pictures from their teenage months. Show decided she didn't want to wait for the scratch in the treat jar to come to her, so she went to the scratch. And fell into the jar.

She learned her lesson, but the next day Marshmallow did it, too.

Marshmallow didn't seem to mind one whit (she's always been the mellower one). In fact, she just hunkered down and kept eating! She didn't even seem to care that she was stuck in the jar!

It was very hard to pry her out. LOL!

Catalina, I just read your last post after I'd already posted the above reply. I'm so sorry about Honey. She sounds like a wonderful, sweet girl. I've had so many animals in my life I've had to go through it countless times, and it never gets easier, does it? My condolences; it sounds like she touched many lives during her lifetime.
