Having had geese, I'd recommend pigeons, chickens, anything but geese.........
Any breed of geese are going to "talk" and warn you about any danger whether real, imagined or may happen in their pea sized brain. Plus on 2 acres be prepared for poop everywhere if free range. If in a pen, be prepared for a stinky pen.
For a choice, I'd agree on pilgrims and never chinese or african. I had embdens, they were quiet for geese. When the hen would go on eggs, the gander would come sit on my lap and be petted, never did understand why???? Rest of time, he wouldn't--not that I wanted him to.
My Embdens were very sweet and very low talkers. Almost like a cute little whisper. They do get very large. They were very timid and shy. I saw an older Embden in a cage with tons of other geese and she was the quietest as an adult too.
