Want to give chicks a name

Me and my kids want to name our chickens but how do we tell them apart? The only one we can give a name to right now is our little black one that is a silver lace and her name is (taka) from Moana.

Mark there feet with colored bands. You can get poultry bands at your local TSC

You can either wait until you can tell them apart (and that is likely to happen eventually) OR you can mark them with leg or wing markers. Just be sure that if you use anything that could constrict as they grow, you monitor those markers closely because chicks grow quickly.

Exactly. I waited to name my birds because I knew they would grow. Also try looking at each of the birds closely. Does one have a darker beak?, a speckled spot on there chest?, etc.

I paint their toenails different colors. Lol. They look like they are all dressed up for a party.

Good idea but nails get dirty and they will wash off. Good thinking though

BTW, when you first put the markers on, they will peck and pull at them. It's OK, they will get used to it and are unlikely to cause any harm to each other with their curiosity.

Yep. That is true. Let them though unless it gets wrapped around there neck or something

And then you can name them and won't get mixed up. I have two white frizzle hens and while they were growing up it was hard to tell them apart, except for their personalities. Painted their toenails, one bright red and one with gold sparkles. Named one Cotton and one Q-Tip. Now have two new little white frizzle babies and named one Popcorn and one Marshmellow.

Nail polish, gel type, doesn't wash off and lasts for over a month.
