Want To Hatch With Me?

I'm in... Set 41 mixed barnyard heritage breeds yesterday..

almost 2 1/2 dozen purchased and the rest filler from my flock.. Got a couple pure Ancona's and a young EE Roo that has decided if the older roo doesn't like them he does ;)   Very curious as to what comes out of those pretty white eggs

Nice! That will be a super cool mix.

So it looks like I'm at eight silkie eggs developing out of 14. A little over half, not bad for shipped eggs. Here's a picture of one of the little guys:

Did the embryos move very much at this developmental stage? I have eggs on day 6 with lots of veins but I can't tell about the movement unless I just don't detect it. See below.

That's what my eggs look like, I just see no veins :(.

But my air cell is pretty big. :/

Not too much. I did get that little guy up there to squirm around a bit tapping the egg. They start to move more after day ten.

Are you using a really bright flashlight? I wouldn't give up on them until day ten. If you're still not seeing anything at that point they're probably not developing :( But right now if you're incubating vertically the embryo may just be developing under the air cell where you can't see it.

I will try replacing the flash light batteries. Thanks.

Okay, thanks. While candling today I saw movement in each that I candled.

Most of the eggs look like this, a dark middle spot, no movement but a large air cell. Day 6 for this egg.

Have you tried candling from the air cell? That's the way I do it since I incubate vertically and it makes it easier to see what's going on in there if the embryos are developing under the air cell. In that picture up there the dark middle spot is the yolk.

Let me quickly candle from the air cell...
