Want To Hatch With Me?

Well I put 29 eggs in lockdown last night. I have a turner full of eggs that are on day 7 and I just set 20 eggs today. I sure hope it warms up soon or my guest room is gonna stink! I am also secretly hoping that ee chicks are going at auction like they were last year! $7 ea! Otherwise I am going to have a lot of chicks!

LOL, I thought the same thing, hope nobody decides to come visit in a couple weeks, the guest bedroom is gonna reek of hatching...lol...

I am still trying to figure out how i am going to candle eggs with a hen on them. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Most...not all, but most hens will leave the nest daily for a few min to eat, drink and poop... I say most because the hen I had did not, I had to pick her up and move her a few feet away so she wouldn't foul the nest (which she had done a couple times).. With her I never did candle, didn't want to upset her more than she was with me just being there. But she also hatched out 5/5 eggs too

I can get her up with some scratch or food scraps. She comes running out but there is not much time to check the eggs. This is my first time having a broody hen hatch eggs.

See....lol, I know the feeling.. I cant do much with a smart phone that's smarter than I am..

Would you have enough time to candle one? Mark it and the next night candle another and so on??

I have not be on this site with my phone.

I never thought to candle when my hen went broody, had never even thought of having chicks and such so the thought never occurred to me then, but I would probably do it now because I love to see them growing

But of course because I want my hens to go broody they wont, so I bought an incubator instead...Kinda takes care of the fix

I was going to use a incubator but she went broody. It saves me from having to turn them and getting a incubator.

Oh I fully agree... I am just waiting for mine, they will get as many eggs as I can slip under them!! I love to watch the hen raise them

My problem, in the many years off and on that I have had chickens I have only had one that has ever went broody, last summer we almost culled her because we thought she was sick!! We have culled out the production hens tho and I am adding a lot more Heritage breeds that have a better chance of being broody. I am jealous over all the broodies everyone seems to have lol
