My pullets are WONDERFUL!!! I was just so heartbroken when one of them got killed by a hawk on New Year's Eve day. She was my daughter's favorite, too. I REALLY want to breed my two remaining girls plus my older hen, but I just have NOT had any luck hatching out a cockerel. Isn't that always the way it is?! You WANT a rooster, and all you get are pullets. When you want pullets, then all you get are roosters!
Well, I have a Faverolles egg (from a breeder in OK) pipped right now, but the pip is on the "wrong" end. I don't know how it's going to turn out. The other one has not even pipped, but I candled it earlier today, and there was movement inside. These were due to hatch today. I think my Genesis is running a tad on the cool side. Knowing my luck, either these will hatch and both be pullets, or both of them will die in the shell.
Last month I did hatch a chick that was a cross between a Faverolles pullet (hatched from your eggs) and my black Orpington bantam rooster. Here he is:
Is he not the sweetest-looking thing?!?! The pullet that laid the egg was the one with the best facial fluff and she's my "ambassador" because she tries to get along with everybody. And my rooster is a very good boy, so this little guy got a double-dose of the "friendly gene." I probably won't be able to keep him, but I'll make sure he goes to a home where he'll be treated like a king.
D'oh! Sorry this got so off-topic. I hope you're doing well, too. I know you were downsizing last year, but I was SO relieved that you were keeping your Faverolles bantams! They're just the bees' knees!!!
I think I'm going to have to e-mail beeball2. I see she's only posted once, here, and I haven't gotten a PM from her. I'll just wait until after this hatch is through, though. I still have a teensy bit of hope.
BTW, here in California, we seem to have had a very short winter. We're in desperate need of rain, but the weather here has been beautiful. PLEASE stay warm where you are. I know it's been a pretty awful winter for the rest of the country... Take care!
