WANTED: Your chicken calls!!!

When mine are out foraging, instead of hanging around the back door, waiting for me, they come quickly at the sound of the door opening. . . it is only ocassionally that I need to alert them to my presence with a "looka, looka, looka" call. . . .an old habit from my goose keeping days.

Calling them to you is not a problem.

Getting RID of them, if you could have a call for THAT (other than waving your hands and shouting suddenly)... now THAT would be a useful trick!

My chickens actually follow my cat around. He eventually gives up, sits down in the grass and they all happily flock around and continue eating. Mo-Cat looks like a sheepdog surrounded by his sheep. I think the chickens feel safe around him.

this is how my chickens are they all respond to the chiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiick chick chick chick i love it they are so smart but ya if i dont give them snacks for coming back inside then they just run off.

Every animal on the farm comes to "Heeere Kitty kitty kitty!"
I've enjoyed hearing everyones calls!

My stubborn girls do not always come when I call.

If they are really involved in their explorations I can literally walk over to them with their favorite treat and they STILL won't come with me! Maybe I need a better call than "Chiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiickens!"?

I grew up on a pond and we used to feed the wild ducks cracked corn each winter. I loved calling them - "Here duckduckduckduckduckduckduckduck! Heeere!". "Duckduckduck" just rolls off the tongue so nicely! They always came in 20 seconds flat...

I'd forgotten about this thread! Sorry I didn't see it when it came back up! I was just looking at my topics and – there it was! Thanks for all your responses.

The chooks are all grown up now and this is their call:

Chiiiiiiiick! Chickchickchickchickchickchick!

They usually come, but not always. They've learned I'm not always calling them for treats.

The funny thing about this is that my call sounds so much like my cat call – Heeere kittykittykittykittykitty! The cats have quickly learned that they get to share any treats the chickens get, so they come running whenever I call the chickens. The chickens and cats are good friends.

Thanks for all your responses! It was fun to read through the ones I'd missed.

I don't have to call if I have anything in my hand. I usually use the chiiiiiick, chickchick chick, but all I really need now is "hey ladies".
