While shopping today I saw a variation of the baking-mix-in-a-decorative-jar type of gift. The dry ingredients were enclosed in a zip-lock plastic bag and tucked inside a quilted oven mitt. Some had utensils like a mixing spoon, spatula, whisk, etc. tucked in there too, and the top tied with a ribbon. This presentation looked really nice and was practical too. Also, it would be a safer way to send such a gift in the mail, instead of sending a glass jar, and probably save postage too.

I would start right after the holidays, when everything was on clearance, and start buying up stuff for a beauty basket. Keep in a cool dry spot and fix up these baskets for all the girls in the family. Can't do it anymore, since we are on fixed income, but they loved those beauty baskets more than anything else they got. I would use coupons for shampoos, and they didn't have to be fancy, just from me in that basket and that was good enough!! The little spray bottles of fragrances you can pick up for less than $2 and sometimes even cheaper at the $1 stores. Candles were a BIG hit, and could find some great bargains after the holidays. . .the list is endless. Bought the baskets at the thrift store or yard sales, so never had more than $20 in each basket.
