Wanting to change my horse's registered name...

Our one paint mare has the registered name "Velvets Wilhemina" and I HATE that name! Her barn name is Cheyenne, but I wasn't aware that you could change the registered names. I may have to look into it.

I've always wanted a horse with the registered name "Sure Shot Dynamite".

I don't know what the APHA rules are, but the AQHA allow you to change their name if they don't yet have points in any event. I think they charge $50.

Arabian Horse Association charges $200 to change names. Can't have produced any registered foals or won any points or awards.

Since you like the name Lorie Darlin, try something with that like: Doc's Lorie Darlin, My Lorie Darlin or Little Lorie Darlin. That way it will be your fav name just at a prefix or suffix to it. Sounds like Lorie darlin is from Lonesome Dove try Gus's Lorie Darlin, Dove's Lorie Darlin,Lonesome Lorie Darlin or Lorie's Darlin Dove.

I'd call her "Red Hot Hickory Switch" cuz her pedigree looks like she could open a big old can o' whup arse on everyone else once she gets going on cattle.

I'd hate to give her 'too much name' right away if that makes sense, so i'll wait a while and see how she does before I change it.

No such thing as "too much name" even if you are keeping her because she lived up to it, or better yet if you are selling her. Sometimes people buy a horse, or click on their link just because of the name. Go for it!

I'm worried about setting her/me up for failure; I have a mare called No Jokeing Around that gave me fits for the longest time

Kind of like naming a horse 'Lightning' and he turns out to be a plug. This one won't be for sale unless we can no longer care for her, but i'd better snap that name up before someone else does.

'Sallys Swinging Chick' just gives me visions of old people with alternative lifestyles
