Wanting to get into breeding: Looking for answers, tips, and advice!!

IMHO, one needs to select from their best stock those that adhere most closely to the breed standard. That isn't possible with one rooster because there is no way to compare them.
For a specific breed, one needs to look at shape, weight. earlobe, beak color, comb type and for a specific variety, feather, beak and skin color. It is so difficult to maintain all those characteristics because aberrations will suddenly appear. Then there are egg production and shell color to be considered.
I don't show but I still try to achieve the standard characteristics.
