Wanting to know why my rooster killed my female duck

Maybe he was trying to mate with her as if she were a chicken and when he tried he ended up killing her. I’m no hen, roo, duck expert all I know is if your in need of chicken advice then get on BYC

Welcome to BYC! Post 1# is four years old, by the way.

Such a statement depends on the number/ratio of roosters being kept in with the ducks, the personality of them, and the amount of space in which the birds are being kept in. For nearly six years I've kept 10+ Roosters with over 40+ ducks with no problems. Do understand, I have plenty of hens for the amount roosters I have, and my birds free-range.
Well, I have two jersey giant roosters who are just now crowing, and one of them was trying to mount a male duck, the only duck in a separate flock of chickens.
The owner of the Duck, my uncle, said that roosters will kill ducks, and that we needed that not to happen. I was looking up solutions, and all i found was that ducks kill chickens alot more often than vice versa. This morning, same duck tried to kill Peachy, a a silkie. Granted, Peachy is tiny, but this goes along with what i'm saying about Ducks VS Chickens.
Now, that being said, my uncle isn't the kind to make something up, so I'm trying to get to the bottom of this.
My roosters are very sweet and friendly, never fight each other, and didn't mean the duck harm.
Can they kill ducks just by mounting?

These chickens (and the duck) currently free range, and there are around twenty hens overall.
