Wanting to make nesting boxes out of this trunk/thing. Any ideas?

Oh absolutely, I'm always hunting for the next chicken treasure. My daughter picked up a ton of plexiglass last year that was a curb alert from a nail salon. I think they had like small cubicles during covid set up to just be in contact with hands... I'm guessing.
Ive been using them for windows and wind blockers or keeps the little ones in the chain link runs I have.View attachment 3939057
Brilliant idea! Chicken treasure, and we ain’t talking about the eggs lol. Hubby went to Lowe’s or HD yesterday and found the cull lumber area, 70% off. Wood with paint spatters or cut wrong, things like that. He came home with a truck full. It was like Christmas morning.
I bought a shoe rack recently and my hubby was like “oh that’s going to make good roosts for the bantams, what’s your plan?” I said it’s for shoes lol. It’s so rare we buy something and use it for the intended purpose lol.

A few pics and measurements.. I remember now I needed to make it smaller since the door is there.
Nest boxes start 14" off floor and they're 14" inside so poop board is 28 ish" off floor.
This poop board is 22 1/2" wide with the roost at 12" from wall and 8" up to bottom of roost.
I would have liked to have built it 28" wide with roost centered at 13-14" from wall to not wreck the big Marans tail but this is King's coop and he camps on the floor, so that's not an issue here.
I made the dividers not extend all the way for ventilation but that turned into Roady going broody so I had to block off the one to prevent unwanted eggs being layed.

Hope this helps...

Ooo thank you so much, helps a ton!!! I love this design, and I think I can do it. I plan to start working on it as soon as Betty decides to get off her nest..any minute now. Thanks for the ventilation reminder! (Did you ever wonder how many times you could say poop pan in one paragraph?)

P.s I really like the bottom shelf/tray/table thing.

Only said it twice if your implying something, but...

Poop board is the Poop board and then the Poop board to the Poop board. 🤪

What is the height of this trunk box thingy? You said 2-3'.

And how many nest boxes you want? Personally I would rip it so that you had 6 or 9 nest boxes depending. 2 or 3 sets of 3. Or you could just build one set of 6 or 9 like said earlier and have poop boards separate. This way gives you space under the boards for a brooder if you wanted/needed, or just floor space.

Yeah it’s 2.3 ft tall, 44” long 19” deep. So I’m THINKING I’ll do 3 maybe 4 nesting boxes with dividers. Add a roost on top (that nobody will use cause my chickens are spiteful like that). BUT definitely want it up high enough so the very bottom can be used as a brooder, because dang that’s genius! The brooder part will be intended for my bantam, so how high up you think I should make it?

Oh wait nvm 28” you said from bottom to roost? Ok talk to me like I’m an idiot, how tall should just the brooder part be?

Brooders need to be just tall enough for a hen to be comfortable standing up. I don't know any average heights of Bantams so can't help there other than they're small.
Really there's no set height other than you want your roosts higher than your nest boxes to deter sleeping in them.
Another thing to consider especially if your doing brooder/nest boxes/roosts all stacked is that's pretty high and consider when they fly down at that angle they need the floor space to land without hitting a wall and think about aging birds and they're limits. This may not be an issue if your building a small bantam brooder but it would if say you have a large bird that unexpectedly goes broody, now this brooder is too short.

My 2 brooders in the Marans coop are 22 1/2" tall to the bottom of the poop boards, but I hadn't planned on building them when I built the poop boards/roosts, they were just a quick... "I need brooders now".
