Quick history, I have a 100% blind chicken...we love her to death. She is so sweet and thinks she's human. I have a RIR that she was raised with. When they first started laying (they are 10 months old now), the RIR started pecking at the blind one. Would come across the yard specifically to give her a good one on the head and walk away. My blind girl knows her sound b/c anytime she is around, the blind one cowers
So the behavior got better over the winter, but when egg production picked back up, so did the pecking. The RIR is just mean. She drew blood on my blind one this week. None of my other girls (7 total) bother the blind one...they don't even pay her any attention. I'm at capacity on my flock right now...but I am wanting to get rid of the mean RIR. That got me to thinking that if I got rid of one, I could get a breed I have been looking for (Maran). I just don't know how to go about doing it. I don't have the space to seperate out a pullet if we were to get a new one. Will getting rid of one and getting another at the same time mess with the pecking order too much?
