Last year I had bales of straw along the inside wall of the metal shed. This year I have a few bales, but I see the hens(added 5) just climb on top of them and pile on each other. I think I am going to remove the bales of straw, add MORE pine bedding, and add another wood board for them to sit on. I have 8 in all. I had 3 last winter.
I would also take out 2 plastic milk jugs filled with hot water every am/pm. I would give warm food in the am,and scratch in the early afternoon. I would switch out the waterer in the am/pm with warm water.
My hens are in a 6 by 8 metal shed with 4 plexiglass windows taped in place. I drilled some vent holes too.
