Warning about heating coop.

They are lucky the coop wasn't close to any other structures that caught fire as well. I figure if chickens froze to death every winter the specie would never have made it this long. Same with rabbits. Sometimes it's hard to sit in your warm house and look out at your animals in the cold but you just have to remember they were designed with ways to cope with the changing seasons.
 
So sad...fortunately I live where the night time temps occasionally dip into the 20's. But even if I lived where it is much colder, I wouldn't heat the coop. Reading informative threads on this forum have enlightened me about not heating the coop. Just look at our wildlife birds, they live in sub freezing environments and do well and so will our chickens.
