Welp, I learnt a lesson the hard way. When taking care of Baby chics it's important to pay attention to even the smallest details because what seems harmless to us could prove deadly for these little chics. I had my chics seperated by age and breed. My silkie and yet to be determined bantems are in a small tub, my 3 older chics where in one as well and then my little six pullets where in their own. I had placed a food dish into the brooder that looks like this...

Me, being the newbie I am to this failed to see any harm in this. My daughter, Megan, went to check on our precious lil girls, when she realized something odd about the food dish. Of course being the playful lil' chics they are they had turned it over but, this time, unfortunatly.... our little chic we like to call Cindy was trapped underneath the dish. My daughter didn't hesitate to rescue poor lil' Cindy. Our sweet little chic seemed to be in a state of shock, she was soaked not sure why, perhaps the heat under the plastic dish? Also she was very still, and we feared of course the worse. Her tail feathers were covered in poo and she was in really rough shape. It had been maybe 2 hours sense I had last checked the brooder. This is Little Cindy moments after her rescue...

Having feared the worse and myself trying to cook dinner threw my tears thinking what a horrible person I am to not have noticed the lil' baby under the dish, we decided it best to keep her seperate for a while from her sisters. We placed her into a small garbage bag box for a short time.

About 30 minutes later, our little Cindy perked right up and was flying out of the box and becoming her old self again. Still being a little fearful due to her sisters pecking her we decided to let her sleep with our Silkie and Yet to be determind bantem for a bit. Soon enough she was full recovered and happy again.....

So this is my way of sharing my experiance with you, its important to use the proper feeding dishes.... even more so than I realize! I will be going to TSC asap and grabbing a couple more feeding dishes for my lovely chics!!!

NEVER USE TUPPERWEAR ON A CHIC!!!!

Thanks for sharing! I believe we have used similar containers for treats in the past. i have never thought about this happening to chicks, however I had a rubber tub do this to a baby goat one time and he was is the same shape as your chick when we found him.

did he survive it?? I won't be using this for my chics anymore.. Its all a process i'm learning so much from these little chics tho and its amazing!!!!

We had that happen once with some of our bigger chicks last year when they were just out of their brooder - thankfully my mom found them in time! I agree - it's best to use the right feeders for them!

I'm glad it turned out ok...

Another thing to watch for is that you make sure there is no chicks under the water containers, we lost 1 chick that was under the 1 gallon water container and we didn't realize it and because of the pine chips it seem like it was sitting on anything..

Thank goodness it turned out well. Makes me happy to hear a happy ending.
