Warning about our lesson learned!

So glad it turned out ok....I bet those other chicks "burped" that tupperware container and took all the air out !

Thank you for sharing. I'm trying to be really careful on what I buy for the chickens. Especially, on things that you only use for a short period of time. But decided not to skimp on feeders and waterer. Figured, I'd have to use them again if I ever have to separate a chicken for health reasons or move a broody. Let's hope that your stories helps saves others.

And the pic of the chick on your son's head is adorable.

This happened to us the first day we brought them home, we thought we'd shooed them all away before we lowered it in. We were fussing with our little kids and the chicks and getting it all set up. I did a head count and we were missing one. I FREAKED out, we were looking everywhere and so confused. My poor kids got accused of taking it and hiding it in the house. Finally I thought to check under the waterer.... There she was all smushed flat in the pine chips, one of our Buff Orps, luckily she was so tiny and it was a short enough period that she was ok. She didn't even look that smushed. DH and I were just sick at the close call. I am a neurotic head counter. Poor baby. I almost named her Squishy, but I don't like to think about it so I named her Toffee instead. She's four weeks old now and healthy as could be thank goodness.

Love the last photo. I'm so happy everything turned out alright. I only use the feeders for the chicks. They are tip proof. Great warning though. Hopefully, there will not be a tragic ending for someone else.

She looks like she is doing great now, thank goodness your daughter found her in time. This year we have our brooder in our dining room while the chicks are small (ten days old today:) , makes it easy to check on them often.

I use cool whip lids for the first few weeks, then switch to the cool whip containers while they are in the grow out pens. Cheap, easily replaceable, and lightweight.
