*warning graphic, deceased bird* question about cause of death. Solid eggs inside

Hi all, we lost our Bridget Jones last month. She became lethargic and her tummy was full of a syrup-like liquid. Eventually she couldn't jump and she was struggling to breathe. We thought we found a tumour inside, but we're quite alarmed to find two solid/cooked eggs inside her, see pics. Does anyone know what may have caused this or her condition? Thanks in advance!

Hello @CumberlandCoop. Sorry about your hen. That is egg yolk peritonitis or EYP. Was she a Warren? It's very common for high egg production hens to suffer from this. There is nothing you can do to prevent it.

Looks like salpingitis with lash egg material, and it can contain parts of egg material along with cheese-like pus from infection in the oviduct. Here is some reading about it:

Internal laying with subsequent infection.
The fluid is ascites, the body trying to flush the nasty out.

Ascites fluid is yellow/amber and can be sticky. Ascites is common with Reproductive disorders, cancer, liver and heart disease.
