(WARNING: nasty photo of injury) What got her and is there any hope for recovery?

Wow! You did a fantastic job!! If she doesn't end up growing feathers back, you can always purchase a hen saver so her little naked butt doesn't get sun burned when she's well enough to go back out with the others! Again, FANTASTIC job!!!

Thanks SO much for your responses. Do you think the pink area is baby skin or is it the muscle that we're seeing? Should we get that artificial skin product to apply? The sweet girl has started to lay eggs every couple of days, and since it's been at least two weeks since she's been off the antibiotic we're keeping them. She's outside in an enclosed, covered pen that is on cement so she can't scratch in ground and get her wound dirty. Her friend is right next to the pen, keeping her company. It's so cute seeing them together again. We've spent so much time, effort, and money saving this girl, but I'm glad we did. I cannot thank you guys enough for your help. That little red hen now has a future again, thanks to you. :)

It's defenitly skin. Muscle is actualy green grey when exposed to air. I got kicked by a horse in my forearm and learned that hahha. I'd def get a saddle like said above to protect her from the roo and the sun and keep it mosturized the way we do our skin. I'd just do this with some shea butter or cocoa butter once a day till the skin is a little stronger. The new skin isn't necessary at this point since she healed so smooth and its all closed up.
The fact that shes already laying makes me feel like there's no serious internal issues which is so awesome!

That is amazing, she looks so good. You all are amazing too for caring for her enough to do this. I wouldn't clip her feathers back, that will help protect her new baby skin. So happy she is laying again. You have to be so proud of her and yourselves. Great job.

Little Naked Butt models her lovely new finery, compliments of MommaChicken3. It covers her wound perfectly, and Little Naked Butt has never been more fashionable. She just may develop a superiority complex and gloat to the other hen. :) Thank you so much for sending your perfect poultry protector!

Yay!!!! It fits!!! Hope it helps!! Did she walk funny for the first 10-15 minutes!!? Mine were doing the funniest things trying to figure out what they were!

Yep, she sure did. :) Walked backwards, kept looking back at it, flapping, walking weird, and finally settled down. We let her out with her buddy for a little while yesterday afternoon and the other hen's behavior toward Little Naked Butt was the same. Thank you so much for your generous and thoughtful gift!
