One of our older hens has a raw and swollen bottom and it feels warm to the touch. We have been washing her and treating her with hen heal (dark feathers). Her comb and eyes are not showing illness. Any thoughts of what this might be?

Most likely it's due to poopy butt and the urates in the feces scalded her rear end and bottom. Keep her rear end free from feces buildup in fluff and feathers (when they grow back, probably after molt).
When the weather is warm or hot, I use a garden hose to spray off their rear end and release them. They shake themselves off and go about their business.
