OKAY. So question. How many of you spend alot of money from these big name hatcheries, and have almost all of your chicks from there die? My chicks arrived from McMurray yesterday. One arrived dead. That was expected, no biggie. Come home, and two more die. Okay... that's not cool. Then more and more start dying. Counted this morning, and I've lost nine out of 25. They've had water, food, light... everything. What's happening?! I'm not pleased. I spent right at seventy dollars for these chicks, and I'll be derned if anymore of them die. I want to contact McMurray and tell them what's happening and I think they should replace the nine chicks. Which of course I don't think they will, but this is absolutely RIDICULOUS! I've had ONE baby chick from the feed store die, and that was due to it having had pasty butt for so long and the caretakers not doing anything about it. Has this ever happened to anyone else?!

I'm going to let my hens hatch babies from now on. I won't buy from a hatchery again. 1, because they can easily die in shipment and 2, I will not support a place that throws baby roosters in a dumpster to die.

MM will replace any chicks lost without question. They are very nice about this. I lost 4 due to how the PO handles them and the cold weather during shipping.

Just give them a call. They are a very good company.
Best of luck with the rest. It sounds like you are determined to take good care of them! Hang in there!

*lol* Ok, it's been one of those days! When I saw the topic of your post I thought there was going to be a picture of a chickens 'vent' or something....

I need help.....

I agree with rooster-red about MM having problems this year; and that they will almost certainly refund your money.

I'm really sorry about your losing the chicks.

I ordered from Ideal this year (15 chicks/5 keets), all arrived healthy and are doing just fantastic after two weeks.

I really think that shipping chicks during cold weather and how the PO handles them plays a large part in what condition the chicks are when they arrive to our homes. One of the reasons I waited to get mine in May was to have a better chance at the weather not being so cold here.

I wouldn't totally give up on hatcheries yet ... although you know the chicks you get at the feedstore are alive and well when you bring them home!

haha I almost put "warning: rant", but I decided to put "vent" for the sheer humor of the thoughts that would enter y'alls minds. I called McMurray, the lady was very nice about it, said give it another day to make sure I don't lose anymore (lost one between now and then), and call back tomorrow and we'll figure something out.
