It seems to me that a large dog would have to ingest a lot more than it could by licking wet paws.

I've chewed out my dad a number of times via email for sending out things he didn't fact-check before forwarding. It's better to take the 45 second it takes to check it on any of the website listed (don't believe one? check it on several!), whereas it can take a looong time to recover your reputation. I don't believe half the crud my dad forwards me, just for this very reason.

Remember: the internet is only as reliable as the telephone.

when I get those kind of emails, I know it's not true, I just delete without further comment. Takes just as long to trash it and not worry, then it does to go back and check it out or send a message saying it's not true,,, blah blah.
To each his own, and if you dont like what ya hear/see, take it with a grain of salt and go on bout your own. That's my view at least.
Noone is at fault for worrying not only about thier own pets, friends, family, but also thinking you might benefit from a little extra knowledge. It was with the best of intentions.

Several people have already noted, and it bears repeating, that a great deal of the "information" on the Internet is actually misinformation.
At the start of this thread several people were perfectly ready to accept the misinformation as fact & alter their lives accordingly. It should have been a tip off when I second person said they received the same email even though the op sounded like a first-person account.
Then there was some of the follow up information added ie: Fabreze & Pine Cleaners-I think you'll find these products are as benign as Swiffer is.
This is not the only instance on this board & others of people being perfectly willing to accept as absolute fact a claim w/o any sort of objective, scientific backup.
I remember some months back many people on this board repeating the "fact" that feeding corn to chickens in the summer would be toxic {burn them up was, I believe, the phrase used}. Nonsence of course but at the time it was repeated by many here as fact.

Again---I'm very sorry that I posted the original incorrect message. I got it from a trusted friend, and thought it was legitimate. One good thing---I have learned about Snopes and the fact-checking sites, and will not let this happen again. Happy New Year everyone!

My God, that is horrible. I have always been pariniod about that so I try to buy only natural cleaners. Meyers cleaners work soooo well and they smell great too. They are completely natural and do not test on animals.
Oh God, I just realized that my mom uses Swiffer and my dog recently had a near death experience due to something mysterious in her liver and gallbladder. If this is the cause, I will file a lawsuit. This makes me so sick that these companies do this. Like anti freeze companies will not put anything in their products to make it taste bad, I am assuming because it would cost them more.

I have to call my mom right away. Thank God I saw this post, and that you for posting it.

Alright I just read the rest of the posts. But I still do believe that these cleaners cause sickness to all living things. For about two weeks I had been so sick to my stomach and could not find the cause. I finally realized it was the Clorox Cleaner tablet that I put in the toliet tank. I took it out and I was perfectly fine after that.
I would still suggest that everyone with animals use only natural cleaner (even if you don't have animals, you should do it for your own sake) and don't be fooled by the products in Safeway. Look at the actual ingredients. Seventh Generation is great and so is Meyers. I buy them at Whole Foods but I know you can get them others places.

True it is another medium that could be incorrect...but long story short we are planning to get a puppy and have babies someday so I might as well go green or more natural. I am all for going back to nature. Besides, making these chemicals takes a lot of petroleum and chemicals.....!!!!! Why should we expose our loved ones to poison..or even the chance of it?

There are quite a few pets that have died of liver related issues over the past few years. Most of that damage can be traced to tainted, cheap dry pet food. Most of it is due to the melamaine issue.

Man if swiffer did cause death in animals I would have a houseful of dead animals. My oldest dog lived to be almost 21 very spry until her last 3 days. My oldest cat is 15 at the moment and my oldest dog is 10 and competing in agility.
