Bristlepaw walked around camp, bored.
Sandpaw sat in camp, thinking. I don't think the clan life is the life I want. she thought.

Specklefur was considerably surprised; her face said so. "Maybe," she said, "It's up to Sagestar, but she'll probably at least give you a chance. Leaf-bare's always tough around this time." She looked up at the sky, which was as gray as a squirrel's pelt. The cold wind promised a snowstorm in the not-too-distant future. "That might be a good thing, or a bad thing. But anyways, if you come with me they'll probably accept you easier."
