Quote: Thistlepaw nodded, padding out of camp. "Everyone flocks to the nursery whenever someone kits," Thistlepaw commented.
Skypaw padded silently next to him, nodding slowly in agreement. "Yeah," she agreed, looking around.
Thistlepaw crouched down as she saw the ferns rustle at the roots. He tasted the air. Vole. He waited for just the moment to strike...
Skypaw copied Thistlepaw's actions, crouching next to him. Her ears were perked, eyes wide. Her tail waved back and forth.
Thistlepaw pounced, killing the mouse quickly and swiftly.
Skypaw let her tense muscles relax as she regained her full height again. "Nice catch," the young she-cat purred.
"Thanks," Thistlepaw purred, burying his catch to retrieve later.
Skypaw smiled, and lifted her head to taste the air. There was a slight scent of dove somewhere nearby.
Thistlepaw traced after a vole.
Ears perked, Skypaw stalked the scent to a nearby clearing. She crouched low to the ground as she approached the bird, moving swiftly and smoothly. The dove didn't seem to notice her.
Thistlepaw pounced on the vole, killing it quickly. He took it back to camp.
Step by step, Skypaw silently moved towards the dove. She was almost close enough... Snap. The twig that had placed itself under one of her paws broke in half. The dove turned, and started flapping its wings half a second too late. Skypaw was already in mid-air, rocketing towards the bird, claws outstretched. She grasped it by one of its wings, and pulled it down, killing it with a swift bite to the neck. The she-cat carefully made her way back to camp, the bird hanging limply from her jaws. The scent of fresh kill filled her nose, and Skypaw suddenly realized how hungry she was.
