Quote: Dustkit frowned. He hated being washed. Lionkit's face brightened at the thought of seeing his father again.

(Thanks! Could Shadowpelt be part of the patrol too?)

"Now go play, after you eat," she mewed, settling down by the entrance. Her eyes closed a bit slowly as a ray of sun gleamed down.

(Sure!)

Silverstripe, Kestrelflight, Shadowpelt and Swiftclaw patrolled a day later. Maplestar had not selected a deputy yet, as she was still terribly injured, but she had said that she had decided who, and rumors were abuzz as to who it was. Kestrelflight sniffed a tree, "there's dog scent here..."

Swiftclaw checked it out, too, "that's awfully fresh..." His fur began to prickle.

Lionkit took his share, sitting down to eat. "Hey! You got a bigger piece than I did!" Dustkit cried, pouncing on his brother. Lionkit yelped, jumping away. "No I didn't!" he protested. "Yes, you did!" Dustkit yowled, clamping his tiny jaws on Lionkit's scruff. Lionkit let out a piercing squeal as a trickle of blood ran down from Dustkit's teeth.

Shadowpelt eyed the tree, sniffing it as well. "It sure is." he agreed with Swiftclaw. His tail fluffed out.

Specklefur immediately shot to her feet, her protective side coming through. "Dustkit!" She yowled, giving him a gentle bat, not enough to wound him, but enough to hurt. "Let go of him now!" Ebonykit and Shadowkit crouched back; they had never seen their mother so angry.

Silverstripe's ears swiveled around as she heard barking in the distance.

Dustkit squeaked, sliding off his brother and running to the corner of the nursery. Lionkit's ears were back, but he wasn't angry, only shocked.

Shadowpelt's whole coat stood on end. "That sounds too near." he growled, his ears back.

Specklefur licked Lionkit's wound fiercely. "You'll be okay," she mewed once most of the blood was gone.

Silverstripe's fur bristled. "I'm going to check it out," she said, bounding towards the source.

Quote: Lionkit nodded, looking over at his brother. Dustkit made sure his mother didn't see, but as Lionkit and his eyes met, he parted his jaws in a hiss.

"I'll go with you." Shadowpelt said quickly, bounding silently after her.

"Naughty!" She scolded Dustkit. She had missed the hiss, but was rather scolding him for what he had done. "I don't want to ever see something like that again. Hear me?"

Silverstripe crossed the thunderpath, ending up in the sliver of territory on the other side, where ShadowClan reached Fourtrees. Every hair on her pelt rose at the sight of the huge black dog, sniffing around.

Shadowpelt's eyes narrowed, and his tail rose in the air. "Do you think it'll cross?" he hissed, not taking his eyes off the dog.

"It might," she hissed, letting out a quiet rouwr sound at the sight of the dog.

"Lets go tell the others." Shadowpelt said.

Silverstripe gave a short nod, and ran back to the patrol.
