This problem have been going on for a while, before I wouldn't have this problem, but now I am getting frustrated. This things start in the eye or on the beak very small then they get huge get infected some pullet recover some get seriously infected to were the eye gets puss. I am gona have to cull a 6 week old chick because it looks nasty since I believe there going to be carriers I dont want to expose my adult flock. I want a happy healthy flock not a sick flock. How would I treat and prevent this?

Do you have pictures?

I'd like to say that if this chick has something that is contagious your ENTIRE flock has already been exposed, so don't cull so quickly.

I just had a 4 month old with something quite similar. Hers developed in he tear duct corner of her eye, upper second eyelid. Her's was smooth, round and could be moved around under the skin when you touched it. My husband is a retired eye doctor and he was pretty certain it was a tumor or cyst. I chose not to cull but observe. Bubble's 'growth' grew until it overshadowed about half of her eye. We didn't intervene other than to give her several doses of antibiotic and let nature take it's course.

It bothered her, she scratched it. It never opened but became raw more than once, then scabbed over. No pus in the drainage. Just clear eye watering. Suddenly, I noticed it was getting smaller. It took about 6 weeks but Bubbles's bubble slowly reabsorbed and now she is the picture of health with a completely normal eye.

Your chick looks like it has pus in the swelling. I would dose her with antibiotics, Tylan if nothing else is available for you to use and see what happens. I agree. You have something contagious in your flock. I would bet staph but without a culture you really won't know.

Definitely don't throw the baby out with the bath water. Also, if she will let you, apply warm packs soaked in Epsom salt water to her eye a few times during the day. If your other birds are recovering, this one should also. They are already exposed as mentioned so I would try to treat.

Bubbles is a spoiled little pullet. She got used to coming inside so 'Doctor Daddy' could check her eye for her. She knew she would always get a little bite of bread afterwards. Now she greets me every morning by flying up on my shoulder and looking for treats.

They are very resilient little animals. Don't give up on her.

Thanks for the reply, its not this one I want to cull. Ill upload another pic of the seriously infected one for that other one it started in the beak lession. I was giving him metronindazole because I thought it was canker but them it accompanied by swollen eye then puss. She is eating and drinking and pooping fine.

Thats awsome nice to hear she have recoverd ☺. I dont want to give up on mine but its something like a never ending virus. Dont know what to think if it is canker, fowl pox, both. They are eating and drinking fine. Out of 5 chicks like 2 chicks develop those warts and the rest dont. What am I doing wrong should I just treat with tylan all the sick ones and Isolate them? One revoverd and grown can I introduced them to my adult flock?

The fact that you describe the drainage from the lump as being 'pus' tells me that it is an infection.

If you have been treating them with Metronidazole, which is an antibiotic, are they responding to it? I would hate for you to switch oral treatment in midstream so to speak.

Do you have any triple antibiotic salve on hand? The type without pain relief? You can use that directly on her eye. Just smear it as much on the lump as you can. She will blink it around and smear it on the lump. It won't hurt if you get it in her eye.

As far as the antibiotic is concerned @casportpony, @ rebrascora any ideas? Flagyl is indicated in humans for blepharitis but my husband has never used it in cases he encountered. Always used topicals.
