Wart-like growths on 3 week old Silkie chick

If you have other chicks, I would bring them inside in a brooder where mosquitoes cannot get to them.

The eyes are another spot where the scabs can cause infection. If that happens, I would apply some Terramycin eye ointment (from the feed store locked up,) or use some plain Neosporin or Triple Antibiotic Ointment in the eyes. Wet fowl pox, a more serious form of pox, can cause yellow plaques inside the beak and throat. So be on the lookout for that if she has any swelling or beak issues. I use teramycin on my other animals so I have that. The growths aren’t near the eyes yet- i’ll watch for that. Right now, they are very close to the nostrils. I’ll check inside the mouth in the morning. It’s cooled way down here at night, so we haven’t had mosquitoes in the past few days. I’ll put medications on the little chick tomorrow.
