Was I being unreasonable?

I am sorry you don't undersand.

It creates serious questions why you need to know my address and phone number.

I prefer to know who I am inviting to my home.

For all I know; you are a serial killer, while unsuspecting sellers are giving personal information to someone who could be potentially deadly.

That being said; I'm sorry it will not work for you.

Seriously, though, while I can certainly understand wanting to know where your food comes from, his attitude does seem pushy and I wouldn't trust him.

I let people from here (BYC) come to my house now and then, especially if purchasing birds. However, I stopped having CL people come to my house unless absolutely necessary - never had a bad experience, all people who DID come were very nice, but my house can be a pain to find and it's just easier and safer all around to meet at the truckstop about a mile away - it's right off the highway so easy for all.

I did have one guy who was purchasing 17 adult guineas come to my house when DH was home (just in case). I could not picture myself packing 17 guineas into my jeep and standing at a truck stop.

Food sales violate CL's terms of use. I've seen some creative ads left alone.

In our area, there hasn't been a problem with eggs listed in the farm and garden section. I've seen lots of ads for eggs. Lots of them.

I have contacted CL admin in the past and they send a pat response back letting us know they have received yada yada. Once I got a message stating that they felt it was competitors. I posted an add stating that and that got flagged in 23 seconds. The food policy is no unpackaged food items or adulterated food. Since eggs are in a carton they are packaged. So after another go around I posted an add looking for eggs and got 47 responses in less than 2 minutes. Then I posted an add saying I had 3 extra dozen (which was true) and was going to throw them out if the add got flagged. 26 reponses from some of the previous responders saying they would take the eggs for "free" rather than have them thrown out. So what they were going to sell my eggs for me? So my guess is there are just too many competitors on CL in my area and they won't let anyone sell. Plus I was asking only $1.50/dozen. When I have extra I post in an area near one of my husbands family members and send him to go see family. The rest get sold right off the farm. The eggs are a way to make our flock self sustaining and any extra money is my sons. Of course all he wants to do is buy more birds. Boy after his mothers own heart.

People ask to come out here all the time. I NEVER let anyone out here for personal safety reasons. So far everyone has understood when I say that decision is for safety reasons and for biosecurity purposes. I now say that people around my coops will negate my NPIP certification (probably not exactly true, but would open my pens up to more diseases). When you throw around words like "biosecurity" and "NPIP" people nod understandingly and seem to get it.

Don't get pressured into letting this wackadoo out to your place. There are a lot of crazy people on CL.

Now you've got me curious. I want to post an ad in your area -- just to see what happens. What location would I select on Craig's as a test?

Definitely not unreasonable! The guy is the one being unreasonable in this day and age and with all the Craig's List stories in the news if he doesn't understand why he can't come to your house! Don't even give it a second thought!

Same here, lots of egg ads.

But in areas where all the consumable egg ads get flagged off, the flags are let stand because of the TOU regarding non-packaged food sales...even though eggs come in a perfect package as far I'm concerned.

Sometimes rabbit ads in farm & garden are erroneously flagged off as pet sales even though the sale of agricultural livestock is fully within the TOU.

There's often flagging tools used to mass flag certain items, "tools" used in violation of CL TOU, and sometimes individuals group together to flag ads they don't agree with.

OP, glad you made the choice you did.

Well I'd have to reply with something like...

Predators are known for coming up with elaborate reasons why they need to meet a person at their house as opposed to a safe, well lit, public place. While I understand the desire to know where your food comes from, it is one reason why I grow my own after all, I'm not willing to risk my life or the lives of my family to satisfy the curiosity of a potential customer.

Best of luck to you,

Piney
