The best trap for a racoon would probably be a foothold.

Saw those online. If this becomes an ongoing issue, I'll grab a few. Hopefully I can get him with my havaheart trap.

Not seeing it on here, but perhaps I missed it. Make sure when trapping that you have a dispatch/disposal plan. Released raccoons become trap-savvy and somebody else's problem.

He will be dispatched quickly. I would never want to make him some else's problem

I would reccomend putting hardware cloth up around the bottom of your coop. It helps with keeping them from sticking their hands in through the chicken wire and decapitating the birds. I am very sorry about your losses!

Thanks, but it's a concrete floor. We already have wire over all the windows, but the coon came in the door and climbed over 6ft high to get to them on the roost bars.
I ordered a new automatic door so I don't have to worry about (hopefully) in the future

You guys seem to have experience with catching racoons. I put the trap inside the coop. Do you think I should put it outside somewhere instead or is there a good chance the racoon will return to the scene of the crime?
