Was this normal?

Distemper can cause partial paralysis, especially of the rear legs. It's possible he was in the early stages. You could contact your state wildlife resources commission to ask if there have been any recent distemper outbreaks in your area. If you have dogs, and they have been vaccinated for distemper, you should be safe.

At the beach you only have to worry about sharks, jellyfish, portugese man-o-war and such...

he looks really thin.i bet if you felt of him under that fur he would be emaciated.he was either young or old and weak from hunger.

I feel bad,i do not like to see anything die,but if were either him or one of my girls,it would be him. Thank you every one with the imfo.Maybe distemper? We do not have any dogs, only a oneeyed cat with asthma so she stays inside. Again thanks.

If the coyote does have distemper you should probably report it to the fish and game comission.

Yes, it sounds like distemper but I doubt you need to report it, it is quite common in wild canines as well as coons. It is about the only way that populations are kept under control.
