Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I just reheat everything in a tiny saucepan for meals or drinks, or in the oven for a little while. Rinse pan and done! And no microwave taking up space on the counter

Mikey, you can achieve the same effect with corn by placing as many husks of corn as you want into a 350 degree oven for 30 minutes. All the extra stuff comes right off just like you described and no microwave contamination

And what do I do with the chicken that I'm baking for dinner? Or that nice braised roast or that lovely porkloin?
There is one of me and sometimes there is #1 son at dinner but the max is usually just 2 of us and he doesn't like corn on the cob.
The microwave oven has been in use for 50 years folks and used properly is just fine. If your food comes out rubbery you overcooked it.
Just like a pressure cooker (yes I have one and use it regularly), you have to use it correctly.
As far as some of these DR's who have the answers, it's funny that the profession doesn't back them up. It's also funny they alway want to sell you a book or two or their newsletter.
If you read their statements closely there will be a disclaimer such as "my research", "my opinion" and such.
I mean no disrespect to anyone's beliefs, but I've been around a long time and I hold a very skeptical view of self interest driven reports.

I hate the reports on studies. People tell me not to eat this or that because of studies that say.... Then they send me a link that says their study "suggests it might" Anything that says suggests or "might" I take as it's their opinion not a fact.
With that said, I think that the unhealthy issue isn't how we heat our food but what we're eating. Heating an ear of corn in the microwave is healthier then eating a can of corn that was heated on the stove. The coating inside the can is chimicals, They add a ton of salt to the corn.

Sorry that is just my opinion on studies..... someone blasted me on facebook about using artificial sweeteners (i'm diabetic).

anyone on here able to tell me how to tell the difference between my muscovie duck eggs and my white egg layers eggs? I have one white egg layer and getting two white eggs a day. One is a duck egg, it's same size as the chicken egg and same color I cannot tell the difference without cracking it. but i wanted to put a duck egg in the incubator to see if my drake is fertile and doing his job yet i just dont want to waist a chicken egg that i know isn't fertile.

I agree. This is why my family pretty much only eats whole, clean foods. We're very into clean eating and follow the Paleo diet fairly strictly because the kids are all allergic to dairy, gluten, and soy. We love it this way! When we finally gave up those 3 things and went with mostly fresh organic humane food, we felt amazingly better! Basically we shop in the produce and meat section...and even now we rarely venture to the grocery store meat aisle because it's all so inhumane. That's why I have begun our journey into whole animals.

I went to a nutritionist because i have PCOS which causes me to be nearly unable to lose weight and eating 1,000 to 1,200 calories a day I gave weight. it sucks, She told me to stick to the boarder of the store. Stick near the walls. Because the food in the isles of the store are not as healthy. Only eat fresh fruit and veggies, fresh meats, milk, eggs.....
I do however get a few things from the middle of the store. Yogurt, and a few canned foods. I like to stock up on canned food in my garage just in case something happens. Like my husband getting sick. I don't work he does. If he is out of work we cannot buy food. So keeping stocked up helps.
I also can my own foods. I am down to last years beets, and last years tomatoes. I like to be able to control my food and know for sure what is in it.

Quote: Oh yeah, I totally agree! We shop the perimeter of most stores too!

With the exceptions you mentioned; we do *some* canned things, but mostly for my own mama sanity because I can't always remember to soak the beans the night before I make chili, so I buy canned. Good to know what's going in your body though. I think most people don't care, and trust that their doctors will cure them of whatever is wrong instead of eating healthy in the first place. The US food model is so disgusting and unhealthy...even the packaged *health* foods.
Quote: What a pretty egg! Your hen looks confused. I know all mine were too when it first happened!

I've got 3 ameraucana eggs set aside, and now Owl the EE X Silkie is thinking about going broody. I'd be very happy with that as she's twice the size of a silkie and can cover more. She didn't get any eggs last time she went broody in November. Normally she's a nasty evil bird, but when she's broody she turns friendly and nice. She also aggressively defends the nest box when she's in it.

Anyone know what a wheaten ameraucana crossed with a standard wild type EE would look like? I might hatch out some EEs from my best layers.
