Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Quote: I've seen people on BYC use pipes to create hoops on top of their runs.

Make sure you anchor the run to the ground very well if you're in a high wind area. I learned that the hard way. 200 feet away later, Lucky no birds were in the pen at the time. The PVC was stronger than the run. Only one cross piece had a crack in it. There are three broken spots in the metal on the run.

So it's taken me close to 25 years but I'm pretty certain I'm going to hang onto my DH now. Funny, I thought once he retired he'd drive me nuts, but it's been quite the opposite. I love having him around during the day and evenings now. He is happy to run errands with me, go to the movies at the spur of the moment, dinner out once a week - we've had a lot more dates recently. Nice.

On top of all that yesterday I told him since we had two broody Silkies that I was planning on picking up 1/2 dozen eggs tomorrow for the girls to hatch. He thought that sounded like a good idea. Then I casually mentioned that gosh darn it, I really need a new grow out pen for my juveniles. I sure do love having chicks in the spring and it would be nice if they had a good grow out pen to replace that piece of junk kit coop in the back yard...

"We don't have room for another coop"
"Yeah, we do if we're getting rid of that junky one, it can go right there".
"Why do you need another coop"?
"For the babies - isn't it fun to have babies every year? We don't need to keep them all. We'll re-home them. I just like hatching and playing with them is all".
"Where are you going to get another coop"?
"Well, actually - I kind of already signed up to be on the big 2013 VF World Coop Building Tour again. He does such nice work and has different designs and you'll be around to help and it's fun to visit and have dinner together. Remember how cool that was last year"?
"Yeah. Okay I guess. That should be fine".

The first part brought back very happy memories for me.

The last part reminded me how I lost so many arguments when Birdie May wanted something.

What age do you need? I have a BCM I'd consider selling. She's about 18mo and lays about 5 eggs a week.

So you know those Full Circle boxes that are about 6"Hx12"Wx18-20"L? I cut the tops and bottoms off of two of those size boxes and used the middle of the box around the perimeter of the kennel. I used tape to hold them to the corners for now, but am adding zip-ties this weekend, I was being lazy and didn't want to go to the garage

I put it in there like a crib-bumper, if that helps?

Yoda's Tour continued....

It was such a nice day on Monday that Yoda decided to look around Central Park.
This statue is at the South entrance.

Then it was off to the Empire State Building.... High up it is.....

On the 86th floor of the Empire State Building, Yoda seemed to like the metal railing close by.
Far down it is the sidewalk below....

The lure of yummy pastry led Yoda to seek out Buddy, the Cake Boss!
It will certainly take Jedi powers for him to master THAT rolling pin....

Thus ends Yoda's trip to the Big Apple. Until next time, bon voyage!
