Threw the tears and pain I am searching for a good breeder that isn't over priced. Trying to keep my mind off of him and on better things. I would spend time with my chickens but it just reminds me that he's not here to watch over them.

DH and I went to visit CowGirlGrace. I went for 6 eggs, came home with 10. He was no darn help at all in restraining me. If I hadn't stopped myself I could have come home with as many as I wanted. Thank goodness for my amazing self control.

I took them down to the VF Silkie Coop and gave them to Priscilla and Lucille. Lucille, our lavender Silkie, apparently is a magician because no sooner had I offered her 5 eggs but they had disappeared, although I suspect she hid them under her flattened, fluffy body.

Priscilla looked at them quizzically for a few minutes. One, then two eggs went underneath her while three others sat exposed. By the time I left though she fluffed up and over the remaining three. Just then Pearlie June came bopping into the coop and began to complain loudly that the other two girls had eggs and she did not. She just got done being broody a couple of weeks ago. I didn't know she was going to be ticked off about it. I swear I wasn't playing favorites. We'll see what happens tomorrow.

I have some cute video I took with the iPhone but I don't really know how to load it here. I'll have to look at that.
In the meantime - here's what we started with. 4 wheaten Ameraucana eggs, 2 BLRW, and 4 cochins. I've never wanted any little cochins before but Cowgirlgrace's were just adorable.

I'm going to re-home these when they're big enough. I mean it.
Oh and thanks to all of you who've been posting all your cute chicks pics lately. You all are a bad influence.

Cute pic of the DD with her new chicky! Your new babies are just too adorable. I'm afraid I'm in trouble. I'll see CGG soon and I'm only supposed to be picking up 1/2 dozen hatching eggs for the Silkies, but I do have that empty incubator that's not doing anything right now and I've always admired the BLRW... Omgosh. I'd better bring DH with me so he can be the voice of reason before I get carried away.
Have fun with the chicks!!!

Best be careful two people doin chicken math isn't always better than one. You could end up with a Ginormous flock of chickees!

Hi all;

Decided to check in and say hello. Been working some pretty hellish hours lately, sometimes 60 hours a week, but taxes are slowing down a bit now.

My friends darn roosters are STILL HERE SINCE APRIL. They ripped up aother rooster of mine last week, so I tossed these meanies into a small cage and told her to pick them up. She said she would, but I've head that before. Now the poor mean roos have been in that small cage for a week, and I feel mean, but I can't have them loose with my flock. I want to just grab them and let them loose in her house at this point. She has 3 roos and one hen here. The other roo is nice, but I really don't need him.

After I get rid of the meanies and scrub all the blood spatters from my coop, and things calm down, I would like to get more hens. I'm tempted to have the broodies hatch some, but I don't want any of those mean genes in my flock, so maybe I will just get fertile eggs from someone else. How long do the bad roos have to be away from my hens for me to know that my nice roos are the daddies?

Sounds like you are going to have fun hatching chicks too- remind me what sort of incubator you have?

I like the lavender birds alot. I've got my son's birds for eggs, and now am trying to decide just TWO breeds I want to raise. Cream legbars are one, and I am thinking maybe lavender English Orps for the other, or maybe wheaton Marans?. Of course I MIGHT change my mind- which is okay, because females can do that without being in the dog house!

Mikayla is a great kid loves the crittters the bugs and the reptiles she has equal lovin for all. We built a cooler bator and we have an LG so far due to a bad design choices and using eggs from eBay the first hatch was a flop, this is a redo. We have Black and Blue English Orps. they're huge in fact they gave us our first eggs yesterday. We picked up a few Wheaton Marans from Cowgirlgrace last summer and they are laying very dark eggs so far. Hopefully these Lavender Orps. will be big like the English. I really like those Cream Legbars they would be a good choice I know they're high on my list for the next breed. I do joke about the dog house but my wife is amazing and puts up with all my weirdness she's an awesome female! Besides I'm gonna install a flat screen and cable out there in the dog house so Tucker won't be able to get rid of me.

Losing a loyal dog is hard. I spent 2K on Willow in November to have a cancerous tumor removed from her head. She's a big,old, arthritic, half-blind, near deaf dog. Most days now when the weather is grey and rainy, she just lies on the rug looking miserable, waiting for death to come take her away and I think I made the wrong choice. My selfishness, not being able to let go. But then today, after the snow, we had a little bit of sunshine and I took her to the doggie park. It was the first time in a long time that she looked happy - she even jogged a little, her shedding coat coming off her like a dandelion in a breeze. I don't know what I will do when her day comes.

I'm sorry for your loss!! Hang in there you'll never forget but it will get easier. Remind us again what breed your looking for may be one of us can help.
