Make soup? Kidding... But I may have the same problem. Our 5 have been laying for a few weeks now. 4 eggs per day, every day for the last week. Then yesterday nothing. I looked a couple of hours later and one of the RIRs was sitting in the nest box. She growled at me when I checked under her, but there were no eggs. So I wonder if she's chasing off the other hens. Maybe they're laying in the holly bush, or somewhere the dogs can get the eggs.

BTW I love the names you gave your chickens. How about Grace Hopper? I'm a software engineer so might do a programming language name theme for future dogs. Fortran, Cobol, Java. I try not to name the chickens except for a favorite.

Don't forget BAL and ALGOL. How about RPG, FOCUS, and Pascal?

Hey Jess I hear what yer saying but here's my thing...

Short of writing down every last ingredient I put into something, I'd be scared silly that I brought something that would make someone sick. So I'm pot-outta-luck :)
I understand your concern. I think the focus is not on how much, but the types of ingredients. So, if you put milk to cheese in you could lable it as a dairy food. Same with any of the nuts. You could list them, or just put down that there are nuts in it. And, if someone has a concern, they can pass on the dish. That's what I do now that I'm going wheat free. I tend to pass on something that might have it. It's my choice, not someone elses. Hope you join in.
 
Hi all! ..... I've mostly been lurking, haven't had any time to post.... But I got a few min of down time :) for once, and wanted to share pics of my soon-to-be new and impregnable chicken run ;-) it will also be more than 2x he size(so I can get more chickens soon:-D)

Right now everyone(5 hens) is in a 8x12 and in a week or two they will move to a 15x20..... Which I will divide when my pullets arrive, until they are big enough to be loose with the big girls....

Once I get the new pen done and move the coop in, I have to start on the coop addition so everyone fits inside comfortably :)

I'm really happy as this pen will have chicken wire buried in large rocks as a perimeter, the carport cover for additional shelter, and 2in chicken wire covering the rest so it wil be a secure and permanent enclosure .... (Permanent anything is rare in our yard)

I've been getting the impression that those who don't need to eat a restrictive diet are feeling a bit down and out about their ability to cater to those of us who DO need to eat a bit restrictively or special. I want those of you who cook "normal" to know that nobody expects you to cater to us if you bring food to the WFF show on the 16th. We KNOW that the way we eat is restrictive and hard and we don't expect anyone to cater to us at all. So please, ANYONE and EVERYONE who plans to come, please bring something you love and would like to share with everyone, regardless of ingredients or if you think it will cater to the masses. We know we're hard to feed and most of us who eat this way understand that *most* people do not, therefore we don't expect people to change their cooking to suit us.

HOWEVER, it would be nice if those who cook "normal" would label foods such as those containing nuts, which are a major allergen. Perhaps we could each just make a small hand written label with what we made and brought written on it so everyone can make good food choices at the potluck? I would hate someone to end up in the hospital because something had nuts (etc...) disguised in it. Just a thought. Not trying to make things harder on anyone and we're all DYING to meet each and every one of you!
While I do understand the food issues I feel it better that those who make "safe" foods label and all other is buyer beware. See I would not want to label my food as say "contains no nuts" When I don't know for sure that some of it may not have been in contact with equip used for processing nutz.
