Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

There's no way I'm going to catch up on y'all, so I'll just jump in with both feet. I caught the devil's own cold, and since I wasn't able not to do chores it's dragged on and on- calving season, chickens to care for, and oh, yeah, a squirrel is eating my house, what fun. And I lost the omega cow and her calf from habitual bottom of the pecking-order disorder, which makes me sad and grouchy but also gave me another couple of hours of work every day while I was trying to prevent the inevitable. Some days I hate farming.

ANYWAY: my friend who got the extra BLRW rooster that I got from Tiff wrote me this afternoon; he has died after a brief illness, as the saying goes. She wants another BLRW; I should just give her Bjorn and get a new one to breed to the two hens I have left (Sylvia having perished from eating all sorts of non-food items) but in any case, does anyone know of a BLRW cockerel or friendly rooster available? And a blue or splash Ameraucana LF rooster; the owls got the one I was going to get from my cousin. I'm also going to need another SSH rooster this year, which may well be a trick.

Everything's laying, I've got to get a clipping table built and a sheep comb bought so I can shear Baaaachus, who is getting to big to go back to his pen, I have a dress to wear when my daughter gets married in July but am still freaking out about shoes, the dogs are still old and stinky and demanding and I mop a lot more than I want to.
Stumpfarmer, sorry for your animal losses, so much effort to have that happen.
Atleast your chickens are co-operating, today I had the best gather this yr. 1SS 1amercana 3 bantam cochin. 5 eggs from 8 hens, and the bantams eggs are as large as the speckled sussex!!
I was wondering if you could tell me the name of the rose start that you gave to ChickieLady a while back? I have lost 2 roses yr before this, too ill to do anything about till now.. is it the one in you avatar?
Thank you for any help. I hope the shoe search goes well. Shoes and purses are just nightmares for me to shop for, I must change my mind a million times.

I have everything you have except for the lathe. And I really, really need want one. I do have a planer. When you get your planer, invest in a hand-held metal detector. There is nothing worse than a spinning cutter head hitting a staple or nail.
Nuff said right there !

me threeeeeeeee- this is crazy making. Why do we pay these weather forecasters?
I've got to get outside and clean stuff up for the party this Saturday- don't want all the folks coming to see my mess. Besides that, all the critters are bringing muddy paws in the house. argh!
Heck yes!!! Muddy paws and muddy boots. How am I supposed to keep up? I think I will run out for a few right now while there is a break, and hopefully tomorrow really is nice like they have been promising.

Hi all,

I posted in the new member forum, but thought I would also introduce myself here too as I am a Washingtonian (allbeit a fairly new Washingtonian).

Been enjoying poking around this site for some time and have loved all of the good information, awesome humor, and chicken camaraderie. Thank you!

We have six lady hen friends (Amerucana, Barred Rock, Buff Orpington, Rhode Island Red, Gold Laced Wyandotte, and a Dominique) and a surprise rooster (Cuckoo Maran), all hatched September 7th (ish) of 2012. They spent the winter in a very large cardboard box in our tiny house (never again), and are all happily outside in their awesome coop my partner designed and built. The gang spends their days 'free ranging' around our backyard, basking in the ever elusive Seattle sunshine, wading in the 'tiny stream' that runs through our yard, and 'hunting' for worms in the garden.

Just last week our Buff Orpington laid her first egg! You would have thought she won a Nobel Prize the way we celebrated that small egg. Its been about a week and she is continuing to lay an egg a day (give or take a few days). We are anxiously waiting for our other lady hen friends to catch on to how cool it is to lay eggs.

Anyways, I think that is enough for now. Excited to join you all!

Peace.
Welcome, I'm from NEastern Oregon, but they let me lurk around here. Lots info, on lots of subjects, and very friendly.

I agree 100%. So tired of the rain. Ready to plant my garden. Thankfully this past weekend my husband and I were able to get out and turn the soil in my veggie boxes and add some compost n fertilizers. But have nothing planted yet. I also need to get out and build a chicken run... I too am tired of chicken poo all over my back porch... more so of the fact that the 3 kids, 2 dogs and husband love to track it in the house.

UGH

can anyone tell me if it is time to plant potatoes yet? I am thinking it is.
Have not grown those for 30+ years and have forgotten the timing.
I did get the peas planted last weekend. Just hope they don't rot!

Hey ChickAudie! My DD is a junior at WSU majoring in Hospitality Business Management. Her wish is to work in management at good hotels. One of the hotels offering her a paid internship this summer is the Wesley Inn in Gig Harbor. They asked her to come home early for spring break because they are having a WEDDING EXPO at the hotel on Sunday and want her to job shadow a couple of the ladies working there.
Lily says the cool thing about this particular hotel is that it's all managed and run by women.

I just want to throw this out there for future thought. Once we find and buy the right place, I would like to breed Ameraucanas, not EE's, but true Ameraucanas. It will be a few months for us to find, buy and settle into a place but I just want this out there so that if you breed them you can keep me in mind.
Speaking of buying a place, I found a place that I will be going to look at here really soon. There are three houses on the property, which is great because my BIL and his DW live here with us (in their own apt.) and we were hoping to find a place where they a could come with us. There is also two barns a shop for DH and many out buildings that could be coops. Also (and this is a great part) the property is 29 acres in Duval. I am trying not to get to excited like I did with the last one but I do have my

. So we will see, and I will of course let ya'll know how it goes.
GOOD LUCK!
