WE need ideas. Our coops are nearly finished, we have some work to do on window location vents and fencing for the lower pen . Buutttt What color to paint them????? I thought I loved the colors I started with on the upper coop( a driftwood color that in our light looks total grey, wanted brownish grey. Plus light plum trim.


but now (not realy) and the lower one looks so barn like should it be red and white. should we have match? I don't really like red so much....

ooooohhh.... how about a dark plum for the walls, the light plum and greys for trim?

Carolyn - Use a disposable pie tin instead of the tiny lid.

Good Idea!!! The sides are higher than the plastic lid I have there now. Just have to find one small enough. Their tub isn't all that big and a std. size pie tin would be way to wide.

Hey guys can anyone tell me what time Monroe is? is it Saturday and Sunday or just Saturday? I might stop by my daughter wants to look at the chickens.... I am just not sure I wanna go with all 4 kids in tow.

I know I am probably way late but ....... Monroe is Saturday only. Judging starts @ 9. How long the show goes depends on how long it takes for judging to be completed .

Nah robj, we were just gabbin' about our wood shop equip and what brand tools we liked. It all started with making raised gardening boxes from fence boards and where we could do the work. Hey if you want to make some, perhaps we could work together in my shop and knock several out at the same time?

That sounds good to me! I need to build a couple. Are you going to do your whole garden in raised beds?

There has been in the past. I hope so because IF we are able to make it I plan to bring S-n-S roadkill.

What is S-n-S roadkill? I'm in CA but I do read this thread often you all seem so connected. My father in law lived in Davenport, WA till March last year when he came to live with us. I sure miss all the fishing there, you have the best lakes and I always caught my limit.

.Nice bike! I actually hate mechanicking (though I love building stuff like chicken coops, go figure) so I admire people who enjoy restoring bikes, cars etc. The T100 Bonneville is one of the new retro models.

Triumph made an effort to make the new ones look like the originals. The fuel injection is hidden inside real carb bodies etc.

I put a pic of my Streety in my gallery - don't want to post it here since it's probably of no interest to most people here.

That's one hot ride. Wish I could afford a newer bike. After all the truck expenses I'll be lucky to afford a tune-up on the Seca.

I've tried this a couple of times today on my iPad with horrible results, so let's see if I can manage better this time. I wanted to share some pics of the new chics. The AMs are 10 days old, the gold star is 12 days and she's the friendliest.

I built them a mini feeder along the lines of what the big girls have. There are 2 small holes at the bottom of the container to let the feed fall into the tray. It works pretty well but they still manage to kick a lot of it onto the floor and mix it with poop! (eta: It sits up on a thick piece of granite, not flat on the floor) What type feeder do you all think is best for chicks?

Not sure if I am doing this right. I introduced myself in the new member section, but thought I should do the same here? My name is Keri. My husband and I have a smallish farm in the Spanaway/Graham area. We have had chickens before, but not for quite awhile. This is my first flock that I am going to raise from start to finish. I have 3 Rhode Island Reds and 2 Ameraucanas that just moved into their newly constructed hen house. I also have 4 Delawares, a Danish Brown Leghorn and an Australorp brooding in a large storage tote in my dining room. Tomorrow I will be picking up a few Anconas and maybe a couple more Ameraucanas.

I have been lurking on this site for quite a while, but joined today so that I could interact with other people who understand chickens, in case I have any questions.


Oh, and I would like to also add a Cochin or two to the flock, mainly for looks, but am having a hard time finding chicks locally. Any ideas?

And welcome to the WA thread. The DOCUMENTED most active state thread of all time on BYC. While this thread does tend to move fast there is a LOT of good info exchanged and some VERY knowledgeable peeps. The people here are a very helpful caring group.

Pigs bring people together.....
That sounds weird but that is what's happening here lately. We have lived her for just over two years now and have met a few of our neighbors and like all of them but one. But now that the pigs are in an area where every one can see them from the street, I have not only met more of our great neighbors, but also have some regular walking people that come to talk to the pigs and us about the pigs. I guess we should have put them out there a while ago, I hate that we are meeting these people now that we are deciding to move. We have one neighbor that can look right out to the pigs from their front porch and I have been told that the DW there goes to the store and buys carrots for the pigs all the time. Then today a neighbor I have never met, we have seen him and he helped us get the mail man unstuck last year from the snow and mud, came into our drive way. So I went out to see what he needed and he had food for the pigs! How awesome. He said he did not want to just through it over the front fence because he wanted to make sure it was ok and that I was not feeding them a certain diet for slaughter. Well they are for slaughter but we are just letting them forage on their own and they are doing great. Plus this means that some of our neighbors may be a bit sad this weekend as the pigs are set for Saturday. Oh well I guess.

Have them all over for a BBq! Baby Backs or Pork Loin may be!!! I'd talk to those pigs,

I'd say Pig Get In my Belly!! YUM YUM!

I use the little trays that come with the weight watchers frozen meals.
