Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Make me an offer :)   I'll take it.

Oh geeze I dunno I never bought eggs before... whatever you think is fair?

When I sell a dozen eggs for eating, I charge 3 bucks.

Make her make you cookies! Thats what my Mom trades my great uncles for potatoes and watermelon since she's the only one who makes oatmeal cookies like great grandma. They are the only cookies they will eat.

Took 3 doz eggs out to my parents and took the new dog Rooster with me. He got to play with their Golden and my bro's Pug. Now he is sleeping on the couch, he's pooped. I got Betty Lu and her chicks and the Silkies in the pallet coop this afternoon. Tonight the layers will go in in the dark, and Pig Pen(rooster) will go to the tractor for a couple of days so all the girls can work out a new pecking order with out him trying to get "busy" with them. They will be lock in the coop until noon, which will serve two purposes. 1 is so they learn where to lay in the new crate nest boxes. 2 to give me time to disassemble the temp coop and move dog panels to finish the enclosed run.

Finally went to the Dr yesterday to get some relief from my allergies. 5 days of Prednisone and prescription strength cortisone cream. I have not been on either of these in over 15 years for my eczema. Which this will help clear up my chronic eczema on my hands. And I get to go to an allergist and get retested(did shot series in the 80's). That day will SUCK!!!

I have lots of work to do to get my pen and trampoline/tractor ready, but my babies are only 2 weeks old, so I have some time.

As for the allergies, I had a really bad reaction to some perfume at work. Used my inhaler (not realizing it has sulfates as a preservative) and ended up in emergency because I was having problems breathing. They put me on predisone also.

Hope you start feeling better soon!!!

Already do, swelling is almost all gone, itching is mostly gone too. I was able to be outside today for several hours and I am not reacting(a few days ago I would have). My coop/run project has taken about 18hrs of work so far. A couple of more tomorrow for fence and covering with net and then paint in a month or two(when we can get a solid week of dry, warm weather). We are Duck's fans so the coop will be yellow to contrast with the green shed.

That's awesome that you feel better already.

I need to pull my "goat house" out of my pen and clean it up. Need to build 2 nest boxes for my 5 girls, and find a way to attach a roost inside. The top lifts off so it will be eacsy to clean and collect eggs. I need to possibly replace the front piece as the goats chewed on the "door" and made it bigger with rough edges. I have to get chicken wire and start digging around it to get the wire down. I also want pavers to put aroudn the outside for about 12" for a walk around area. Whew, so much to do.

Back in the 80's I worked for a flood insurance company. I was always surprised how much flood plain there actually is like in the desert. Or downtown Sacramento. I didn't do Washington to much so am not too familiar with the flood plains here. In CA they have the flood plain maps in the library. Do they here?
Yes, we have the 100 year flood plain and the 500 year flood plain maps.....normally we get the 100 year flood once or twice a yeas. we had the 500 yrs flood a about 5 yrs ago. They straighten the river above the fall so the water comes into the valley a lot faster and more forcew so the floods are a lot worse.

About 50% of my farm is underwater at the 100 yr flood and when we had the 500 yr flood , about 2/3 was under water....the barn had water about 2 feet from i and the house is safe on a hill. We have flood insurance and they do not cover the fence that get wiped out from the flood.

Okay, so imagine making those beds, but ONE major improvement- use 2x2 poles from the bldg supply, and put them in 2 corners- for the beds you plan to grow UP- like peas, beans , cukes, etc. You can them put a "top" bar across the poles. I plan to do this once we've been here and have enough compost to put in beds, etc.

At our new place here, i am working feverishly to even get to the point of getting a garden ready- I've had my chickens in the garden all winter, moving them from place to place until they have tilled the soil up and gotten rid of weeds. I've got cardboard I tossed on the bare dirt to keep anything from growing till I planted it! Hubby needs a working rototiller- we have 2 that are broken down left on this property and hubby needs to get one running (in our spare? time?). I know we should have stuff planted already, but we can't plant where the chickens are still living, and the new chicken house is not ready yet- no ne for?st boxes built, no flooring (looking on CL for free or cheap linoleum!). Got roosts. Might have to move temp chicken housing and pens one more time just so we canoe guys looking get a garden going....Arch. Chickens certainly complicate things....
I'm defiantly going to try that. I like the climbing idea. It get's crazy around here in spring too both DD's have something going with either school or sports which is fine with me as long as their smiling, running and off the couch. I need to kick the chicken tillers out o the garden too. We've got clay soil so we're holding alot of water so planting is going to have to wait a bit. That's another reason the raised beds will work out good. I'll keep my eyes open for linoleum for ya how big of a piece are you guys lookin for?
