Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I have a puzzle for you all.
Yesterday when I collected the eggs I had very nice cream coloured egg, but couldn't tell whether it was from a RIR or an Orp.
Today I collected the eggs and I got a WHITE egg. Since I also got the 2 Orp eggs it had to come from a RIR or I have a white egg layer lurking about.
Anybody have any clues?

White egg layers will have white ear-lobes - maybe it was a really light cream color?

haha I love home school! Our "First Language Lessons" book is paying off a little at a time. Somebody was out of bed in the bathroom and I asked "Who's up?" and John answered "It is I!" and totally giggled! He said "I know that's right but it sounds so funny and wrong!"

He's so cute. It does sound wrong. Too bad most people actually say it wrong instead of speaking correctly. Doh!

Yep we can do together Rob, I have a Cub Cadet rototiller that works really, really well. Need to get it fired up, haven't started it in over a year but it has less then 10 hrs of use and the gas was drained before I put it away. So a new plug, some primer pulls, and fresh gas should do the trick I'm thinking.
As for the boxes, heck yeah. I have everything we need except the fence boards which I'll try and et today.
This weekend turned busy got a call from the boss around 2:00 to work Sunday get to spend my sunny Saturday lookin for a leak in our roof.
My phone is too pesky to quote..

Robj, my little frog poker will be 3 next month, also have a big one who just turned 7

Carolyn, that is Fish Lake in Spokane county. Many a summer days are spent there!

Rainmom, (think I got that right) I love your solution to keeping birds out of berries..I pinned it to my Pinterest!
I only saw the small one up close she is Beautiful I think you had the other on the dock from a distance I'm sure she is beautiful as well. Our girls were a blast when they were those ages. They're soon to be 12 and 14 still cute. DD Kayla collects frogs on the property and fills our pond every summer so far. Frogs, snakes, bugs anything that flies crawls jumps or wiggles Mikayla is on it. I wasn't able to take a second shovelful until she collected all the worms out of whatever hole is happened to be digging! she still does that!
From Anthony at Bradley Farms in Tacoma - Anyone willing or able to take him up on this? I can't find his phone number but his facebook page is:https://www.facebook.com/thebradleyfarm

Shearing help!

I have 2 Jacob sheep that are in desperate need of shearing! If any of you know how to shear or know of someone who does, we would like to offer you the wool in exchange for some shearing lessons. This picture was taken last summer, so they are substantially more woolly now!

Robj, our daughters sound so much alike! Little nature lovers! In the summer we get quite a few wayward frogs in the house & the girls try to follow their sounds so they can catch & release them. Last summer a chicken caught a garter snake & the other chickens were chasing her, with my older daughter running after them yelling 'No!' 'Drop it!' lol

You know...I have to say that I must have been a small time farmer in a former life....

As a kid (an only child no less) I was always outside climbing trees. We lived in a suburb of Milwaukee, but I always found some woods to go play in. I would catch snakes and take them into the house to have my mother scream at me since she fears them. They were only little garter snakes, but sheesh you would think it was a cobra or something. Heck, I even had a crayfish for a pet. He escaped and died in my closet as there was no water for him. My parents even tell of the time I told them to keep a praying mantis and feed it when I was just 4.

I was always wanting to dig in the dirt.

As an early teen I tried to convince my mom to sell our house and buy a farm. I even got her to go look at a farm house that was for sale. Alas, no go. She's a city girl and wanted her comforts.

As a young adult my first husband and I got a pair of RIR's in the late 80's. That was long before online groups, or even books, with information and guides on how to care for your chicks. Somehow I managed to get them all grown up and laying eggs.

Here I am, now in my late 40's and I'm finally getting my mini-farm going. I will have almost 80 sqr ft of garden, 5 chicks and 2 cats to work with.

All that being said, I'm sadly ignorant on building and inventiveness for coming up with ways to get things done around my house. I know I will be making our trampoline into a tractor with hardware fabric and zip ties. That's pretty easy, and in my eyes, rather obvious on how to do it. It's the pen and coop that I feel challenged with.

I'm so glad I came here (at my GF's urging). I've met some wonderful, and sharing, people. I hope I can be as sharing and helpful as all of you have been towards me.

EVERYONE COMING TO MONROE on the 16th, please visit THIS THREAD: https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/751538/monroe-wa-wff-show-meetup-potluck-join-us

Please reply in the thread with what you can bring.

I would LOVE to meet around 11 to start the food, so people can hang for a couple hours before needing to leave for work and other Saturday afternoon/evening functions.

reposting this once or twice a day until the show. we still need people to bring utensils and drinks.
We're going to come so we can bring drinks I'll post here so if you Peeps want to let me know by PM what works for some of the diets I'll pick up a variety. We have a Trader Joe's close if that helps, what for the little kids some type of juice boxes may be?

SarahKatie...  I'll try to find a photo that illustrates what I'm talking about.  My concern is that if the CW is only buried, not attached to the walls of the pen, a dog or coyote can dig down and squeeze in.

I think I know what you mean... I dug the ditch, then put in the tposts, then attached the CW, the added rocks... The CW is in so that the rocks lay ON the CW.... Then back filled with dirt.... The rocks are pretty heavy....
